Hard drives weigh more, due to the magnetic domains having energy. Or they used to with MFM and RLL encoding. PRML and EPRML encodings have the same domains even when not storing data,
SSDs get lighter. The charge traps put electrons into a lower energy state, so they lose mass!
a computer with more files may need more drives and drives can be heavy
