Might prevent it from being able to be plugged in…. But shouldn’t cause issues function wise.

why not try a dehumidifier? my house used to be horribly humid to the point where mildew grew on the corners of the walls, and having those little chemical dehumidifiers on every room made every one of those issues dissapear
ifeellost_wav
you wont be able to plug it in if you do that.
notxapple
Obviously don’t plug it in like that but it should be fine though the corrosion isn’t actually that big of a deal and you should probably look into a dehumidifier
AtreidesBagpiper
Adhesives usually contain corrosive solutions and having a metal covered in adhesive tape for extended periods of time will degrade the metal underneath.
NewMinimum519
The outer shell is used only for ground so it’s sort of whatever if it’s rusted (to a certain degree). But is this case your inner pins are also rusted as well.
willij44
that’s why gold plated connectors exist
CoconutMochi
You could try something like deoxit to remove corrosion, they have an amazon listing as well
The glue on the tape may cause more harm than good…
Get some electronics switch lubricant or contact cleaner. Spray lightly and wipe off the excess. It will leave a thin film of oil behind that will help protect it.
ArlieTwinkledick
Just spend. 11¢ and get a new one.
icedcoffeeblast
Maybe it will function but would it fit into the slot?
RustyDawg37
Get a dehumidifier and dielectric grease. If you tape it, how are you going to plug it in?
Bloodmksthegrassgrow
Geez just get a new cable. Do you live near the coast? Is your pc outside?? I have so many questions
RemcoTheRock
There are many options available in this day and age to get rid of the too high humidity
heydudejustasec
It definitely won’t stop humidity from getting in but on the other hand it might inhibit evaporation.
If you really wanted to do something you’d have to probably lock it into a tupperware with some silica gel.
Pagan_Zod
Wut?
Unusual-East4126
I would use dielectric grease if you need a surface application. I’d also fix the humidity issue.
Hanz_Boomer
Just oil it, that will do.
LordButternub
Its really not that big of a deal unless it gets really bad, just rub it with some fine sandpaper or steel wool
PastaVeggies
what kind of overly paranoid workaround is this? What could possibly corrode your USB that quickly?
Tvilantini
Just buy the silicone usb cap on ali
brimston3-
How does this stop the corrosion happening on the inside?
Get gold-plated cables.
lainlives
I keep my connectors coated in deoxit d100 since otherwise mine also corrode away.
There are alternatives but this one is red!
tetsu_no_usagi
I think you still need some contact of the metal outer ring to provide a ground. But give it a try, just be ready to swab it out with alcohol (while the machine is off, to get all the tape residue out) if it doesn’t work.
do_you_know_de_whey
Mmmh I feel like there are better solutions here, honestly doing nothing is probably still a better solution.
Worst-Lobster
In case it in an epoxy cube for ultimate corrosion resistance. Like the epoxy hotdog
Kirxas
This might sound crazy, but you can just clean it up with olive oil. It’s non conductive, and it gets rid of rust real good. Just make sure to clean it well afterwards, somehow

Fill the usb port with non conductive grease
