Diminishing returns for ever greater price. It’s not a necessary upgrade, why buy it.
XI_Vanquish_IX
Have they tried like innovating harder?
Or like not selling a new chip every year? I swear large companies can’t get out of their own way
General-Rain6316
The windows update was a disaster and even with it fixed the 9000 series was looking extremely underwhelming
Cottontael
Should be working on affordability not exponential price upgrades for linear performance upgrades
barfelonous
They’re pricing themselves out of their own market in my opinion. The only reason I haven’t bought one is simply the price and how fast tech becomes obsolete. Affordability should be priority for AMD
ganon893
I 100% support roasting AMD over this. Just keep this same energy for Intel and Nvidia.
Remember kids, corporations are not your friends. Not a single one.
Fire_is_beauty
Have they forgotten that people still think about the graphics card first ?
You can’t milk CPUs like GPUs.
Pernyx98
Intel (even with their current issues) is still the go-to for a lot of people because of compatability and brand loyalty
Shadow-over-Kyiv
I just bought a 7800x3D. Absolutely zero chance I’ll ever buy a 9000 series CPU. Why would I? They’re more expensive and quite possibly worse performing.
FandomMenace
They got out in front, then promised more than they delivered (probably on purpose) for more money. Who could have predicted this? Ps5 pro did the same thing, so let’s see how poorly that goes as well. These companies seem to forget these are luxury items, not essentials. You can roll for a decade on a cpu, if you have to, or simply buy the last gen and save a giant amount of cash for a minimal loss in processing power.
Redfeather1975
I think they care less about the industry and more about their own personal gain from the industry. Reminds me of fishermen from long, long ago.
Exciting-Flan-1484
Too many of us upgraded our systems over covid and the huge sales volumes of the 5000 series are now leading to a stall in sales until a more meaningful update comes out.
butwhythoeh
Greed will be the downfall of many of these companies, they keep pushing and pushing to the max amount they can price items at.
At this point a few of them will be pricing themselves out of the market.
When that happens we will all be laughing.

Maybe don’t release new CPUs every year if it’s such marginal changes.
Rajamic
Even if they they had the expected performance gains, the versions available now weren’t going to do great. Between the insane value of the 7000 series on AM5 and the even more insane extended support of AM4 with new x3D CPUs, the 9000 series without x3D were going to be a tough sell for anyone except people looking for a workstation PC that was a bit more budget than what Intel will offer.

It’s the iPhone 16 all over again
kron123456789
It’s their own damn fault for not making them substantially better than Ryzen 7000. Like, the most serious competition for 9700X is 7800X3D. The fact that both can be installed in the same board doesn’t help the newer CPUs either.
TeamChaosenjoyer
What went wrong? Uhhhh we didn’t need them lmfao the only reason to buy and or intel this year is if you REALLY need to upgrade everyone bought the last gen and the one before no one needs this one cpu wise lmfao
MrsKnowNone
Having to buy a new moba and ram on already it BEING very expensive for what the performance gains are means I could spend 200€ on an upgrade where I don’t have to drop another 400€ just for the ram and moba. The moba’s for AM5 are still ridicilously expensive. The cheapest atx boards I’ve seen have still been almost 200€
BigGhost2815
What’s with the 3D on the 7800x3D? What’s good about it?
spaceboy79
I need to upgrade my 7 year old computer and I feel a bit forced into AMD since intel is having the big chip issue. It kind of feels like a bad time to build a PC.
irlblackbeard
AMD, like every other company in their position, is beginning to lose the plot. One of the biggest reasons they were taking so much market share from Intel in the early-mid 2010’s to early 2020’s was their price/performance ratio. They were very fairly priced and had incredible performance to boot, namely their X3D chips. So it’s no wonder that no one is exactly clamoring to buy these when they’re are 1. exorbitantly more expensive, and 2. not a clear upgrade over something even from their last gen chips.
sinnops
Humm. Was looking to upgrade my wife’s work machine that has a Ryzen 3600 and was thinking of the 9700X, still seems like a great option as its the best in Photoshop (Puget benchmark). She does game a little and performance seems reasonable enough. Seems silly to to go for a 7000 series
QuestPlease
The affordability to power ratio has always been AMDs strong point.
This ain’t it.

no one has any money to spare. its all going for food.

Current amd is a price issue.
It litterally costs 100€ more for me to buy the the 9700x compared to buying the 7700(non-x) including a cooler, or 7700x without cooler. (Or 160€ for a tray 7700)
And at the same price i get the 7800x3d
wicktus
My 7800x3d won’t be changed before a big chunk of years, it’s stupid good at gaming
They made an uninteresting product compared to Ryzen 7000 which is quite cheaper..so not surprised tbh
nekrovulpes
5800X3D was just too good. It’ll probably be a while yet before I even think about upgrading, especially considering it will mean a full platform upgrade too.
Optimal_Name_1533
THey arent upgrading anything, then they should not expect any returns.
Accurate_Ad_6788
You know what, I’m so happy that people aren’t taking shit from corporations anymore. I hope more will speak out and people show their protests with their wallets. Let them learn to earn the customer’s loyalty through good products, not just name brands
Honest-Yesterday-675
All amd has to do right now is sell a lot of am5 motherboards.
Rich_Consequence2633
They are good CPUs but priced badly. Make them the same price as the current 7000 chips and decrease the 7000 a bit and they will sell much better.
Cl4whammer
Not much more performance and expensive AM5 mainboards. That does not surprise me.
On the other hand, a month ago i purchased a Ryzen 5900X and 5700G to upgrade two of my older systems running Ryzen 1700X and 2700X. Lots of performance for not much money and i can still use these old b350 boards that i got for around 30-70€ years ago.
bizkitmaker13
I’ve had a 7 2700X since the launch of the 7 3700X. Haven’t had any real issues, replaced my graphics card (gtx970 -> rtx 4060ti) first
Tamotefu
I’m right at the line where I should be planning an upgrade from my 2700x and 2070, but I can’t afford it right now.
And I’m gonna fight the windows 11 switch as long as I possibly can
ExO_o
well, i just bought a ryzen 9 7950X3D in march, so i dont think i’ll be needing a new CPU in the next 5-7 years
and the performance increase is not worth the price leap for the new 9 series, so was kinda obvious this would happen, no?
shapookya
It’s almost like everything became more expensive and people started to think twice if they can afford the newest hardware for their hobby.
Teufel9000
They should just make the x3d extra memory cache baseline now. There’s no point buying these ones unless ur super outdated
UnsettllingDwarf
Yeah well that’s what happens when companies keep raising prices. Consumers don’t want to pay it for something that isn’t worth it.

This isn’t a new thing, from my experience it has NEVER been worth it to buy the latest gen CPUs for at least a decade. Always buy previous gen for the best performance/price
