EA says giving videogame characters ‘life and persistence’ outside of games with AI is a ‘profound opportunity,’ which is the kind of talk that leads to dangerous Holodeck malfunctions

Can’t wait for EA to create a hologram version of John Madden that tells you what kind of plays to run in the game.

Good. Name one fun Star Trek episode about a time people went to the holodeck and it didn’t malfunction.

So when can I marry my hologram AI?

A new way to push predatory bs.
You’ll be playing Halo and Master Chief will just break into a commerical trying to sell you shit. Billy Mayes style.

As much hate as EA gets, you figure this wouldn’t even be news at this point. They’ve shown time and again they only care about money, stop giving them yours. I fully understand developers exist to make money, but EA is especially scummy.

What’s a holodeck?

Just when you think EA couldn’t get worse they do it.

Anything but make actual updates to a football game.

It’s just such an exhausting idea that breaks down as soon as you consider it.
I don’t WANT every person in Skyrim to have a full life. Being able to talk to every single LLM- powered character would quickly get boring.
Just enough for immersion, and then move on to a curated experience

Sorry, but aren’t most EA “Videogame characters” just, you know, real people? They even used a football player as an example. Are they basically saying that because they have the right to the NFL license for games, they have the right to make fake AI versions of every NFL football player for use outside of the games?
That seems… objectionable, at best.

I really don’t like on the event horizon of machine sapients we are trying to use them as eternal slaves.

EA can go suck a fat one. They aren’t in the video game business at all.

I’m having a hard time understanding how anybody could say these words in this order.
“As our lives become increasingly digital, and the internet becomes increasingly spatial, it’s not hard to imagine taking our favorite characters, ones that we’ve already spent hundreds, if not thousands of hours with, to other contexts in our digital lives, like social media, news, shopping, online learning—even those FaceTime calls with your parents, where you have to show them how to fix their laptops for the hundredth time.””

It’s the kinda talk which leads to EA buying game studios and firing literally everyone there to replace them with a single computer that will fail to create a new game
Dave_FIX
Can’t increase profits from gamers anymore than they already are so costs will have to be cut elsewhere.
Whenever I say boycott EA I get told ‘But what about the people who’ll lose their jobs?’
Well here you go the jobs are going to be lost anyway.
So for one final time
BOYCOTT EA.

EA produced a Sherlock game back in 1992… That AI Sherlock now has a 32 year old A.I. Moriarty.

…Definitely ***not*** what it meant, but the first thing that came to mind when I read the title was the game theory on DDLC – the one where the girls would be characters in another game and you’d be able to remind them of the DDLC world – actually being a thing.

What’s wrong with current characters?

Remember what happened with the Marayna program? We don’t want a repeat of that guys. It even got Tuvok.
