So I recently RMA’d my i7-14700k after significant degradation including massive FPS drops, hitching, the “Out of Video Memory” error, and finally being unable to boot at all with the cpu stage indicator remaining on, on the motherboard. A fresh cpu I had laying around for another build fixed the problem immediately so I proceeded to RMA my cpu. After a lengthy back and forth process, Intel accepted my RMA and after their review process was completed, they issued me a replacement for an inferior i5-13600k instead of my original CPU. When I brought this to their attention and refused to accept a lower quality product without some form of reimbursement, the support ticket was closed and the i5-13600k was returned to sender with no new updates to my case or any new tracking number for the correct CPU. Now I have no CPU, and no active support case. Any advice on what to do now as I’m currently out a $400 CPU?

Also, I cannot add any more comments to the support ticket since it is in “closed” status. This is beyond shady business practice and I’m extremely confused as to what is even happening behind the scenes. This feels like the Asus debacle all over again

No way 💀, someone must have fat fingered the checkbox list and picked the wrong one to send back.

Just wait for a response, intel are slow with replies but they’ll sort it out

I’m dealing with a similar thing, RMAd a FireCuda Lightsaber Legends 1TB NVME, currently £147 on Amazon, I got shipped a regular non heatsink FireCuda 1TB. Granted not as bad as your case but the Star Wars drive is worth twice the regular version, got told essentially that they’re a like for like drive in terms of performance and nothing they can do

Argued that a non heatsink drive isn’t like for like so they conceded on that so waiting to see what they do but I feel like I’ve lost the battle in getting another Star Wars drive

Update: to anyone commenting that this is a simple mistake, it very may well be. But this post is here to highlight the lack of, and importance of, communication during the RMA process. If a customer is left in the dark while the company scrambles to make things right behind the scenes, it leaves ambiguity and uncertainty over whether action is even being taken at all. I should have been given options if they were out of the i7 model and if it was a genuine mistake that they sent the incorrect model, they should inform me of that with a new tracking label and time-frame for the correct cpu to arrive instead of letting me watch as the tracking for the cpu showed it getting sent back to the warehouse with no way to contact them again.

Update pt. 2: I believe someone from Intel saw this post because I just received an apology letter for the mistake and confusion about the wrong unit. They have even offered me a full refund for my processor which was NOT an option listed in the original RMA request. I will be having them ship me the correct unit now as I have a replacement plan in place through Microcenter that still has 2 years remaining and I would not like to lose that.

I originally brought the processor to Microcenter to replace under that plan, but they had me go through the Intel RMA process first so I could keep my protection plan in this case where Intel actually honored their RMA.

It’s impossible for them to do this you have to give them the serial number of the chip before you send it . And they create the invoice and they arrange pick . They cant input in to the system without a valid serial number .

You can use there website to talk to a live agent or straight up call them, I went through this with Corsair

this is why you buy AMD now and not Intel, because as much as i want them to get their act together they wont they are greedy for money and didnt bother to help anyone with 13/14th gen cpus because of recent issues and because of that AMD cpus are better value and more consumer positive (even if the 9000 series bombed their success a bit)

glad I havent had any issues with my 14700k, but then again I didn’t stick in an Asus motherboard so I’m sure thats why I have had zero issues

Damn lol, previous generation *and* a lower model as well. They’re really trying to get into *both* holes without lube huh.
