I am partly inspired to write this since the topic of lore and storytelling has become a fairly hot topic recently. In short, I think this is one of the more bizarre worries people can have about BO6.
For starters, zombies storytelling has always been a thing you’d have to explicitly go out of your way to find throughout the years. Whether that be radios, ciphers, notes, puzzles, etc, storytelling has never been just limited to gameplay and easter eggs. Nearly all the intrigue of early Aether (like Maxis, Samantha, Group 935) was not stuff you just happened to experience in common gameplay or even by doing the main EEs. You would go out of your way to search for this stuff. Heck, a lot of people right now are discussing and searching for the “impossible” EE from BO3 (that also likely has at least SOME lore implications for Aether). This EE is significantly not gameplay based, but the interest is fervent.
I understand many of the worries and anxieties about BO6. Will it have that zombies atmosphere, will you be able to customize your screen to simplify it back to older looks, etc etc. But in my opinion, the concerns that BO6 might keep the CW intel system only serves to cheapen many of the valid arguments and complaints that are espoused about the future of zombies.

Nah. If you want to tell me a story then tell it through the map or actual character dialogue. Not freaking book pages on the ground

I loved the intel system in CW. Not only do I love CW’s storyline in general – but it’s also super convenient.
I can pull up any obscure lore document without having to dig through countless youtube videos and/or wiki pages.
Only peeve I have is – don’t limit them. In CW you could only obtain 3 D.A. intels per game – made extra annoying in Outbreak, as the ‘‘Trial Computer’’ only gives you intel after round 2.

I feel like the intel system takes away from how special the zombies easter eggs and lore is. From my experience, lore is best when it’s not thrown at you. Zombies does this well because you have to search for it, it’s all around you but you need to actively be looking for it. The intel system gave you the story without you needing to find it, even if you didn’t want it really.
My main point is the intel system takes away the exploration from zombies. What you need to do and find out is already given to you, you practically know where everything you need is. What made zombies “zombies” was looking for things yourself. Want jug? Go find it, want pap? Figure it out, ect. It was all about learning the map. Instead zombies is now taking away that learning aspect, you already know where these things are because the game is telling you, rather than you learning about it.

It’s literally ciphers and radios but better since you can look at it whenever you want, I don’t see how some people dislike it unless they are talking about the DA story as a whole which is another argument.

NOOOO BO3 SOOO MUCH BETTERRRR ANY OTHER GAME BAD NOOOO /s

the intel system was horrible because it made the story into a metric instead of just focusing on environmental storytelling and characters. in classic zombies, if you want to figure out the lore you can find it all in game and you don’t have to play game after game just because of some arbitrary intel “limit”. as with everything in cold war, they just wanted a number they could say got bigger to justify their shitty choices. piecing together the puzzle yourself and looking deep for clues are things zombies was built upon, it will never be fine to dumb it down for the sake of change.

Yeah intel was cool. My only problem was there was wayyyyy to much and a lot of it wasn’t that interesting. If they reduced the amount of intel there is and tried to make a lot of it interesting, them if be perfectly fine with the system returning.

Intels are good for explaining back story of some things in the map that can be too much if it was part of the easter egg, helps with players exploring the map learn about the deep back story, radios, pictures, maybe a drawing on the wall or even some hints of the next map.
But when comes to cold war, I didn’t like the way how used the intels to explain the main story it self mainly because sometimes we need to get it from trials or having to collect them and read them after playing which not everyone gonna do, plus people who don’t watch zombies youtube wont have any idea to what is going on and the story feels like it got soo many gaps, but i can see them doing it because of the lack of main characters back in cold war.
Such a cool concept and i hope they don’t over do it like in cold war, and make it something worth exploring and finding while casually playing the game, it adds a whole another dimension or story telling or explaining some back story of some things like how this boss zombies is like that, or what happened to those dead people, or how did they find this wonder weapon.
Also i would add to that it will be soo cool if they alao bring back some sort of comic story telling as eastereggs u can find, that would be awesome.

My issue with it is, there is so damn much of it. They could easily show some of the intel in story cutscenes instead of going the route of 80 million intel to collect.
Also the fact so much of it could have been told through the actual story even though we didn’t have a set crew thanks to WZ in CW, they could have easily made the people who talk to you throughout the map tell you random things instead.

I liked it too, they said they were making some updates to it a couple of weeks ago though, I think they’re making it less important since they know most people don’t care to read or listen to stuff in the menus.
“The Intel system is back in #BlackOps6 Zombies, and we’ve made some updates:
• Intel is complementary to the story
• We’re showing more through in-game cutscenes, rather than telling via Intel
• Intel will provide some answers, but may also leave you with a few questions…”
