During all the comotion and craziness of the past two weeks I haven’t really seen this mentioned at all. But damn , if it’s like the Cold War system I’m super excited, I loved how they did intel in that game.

This could honestly be really goddamn dope if they do it right this time around, because one of my biggest gripes about CWs story is that so much of the world building and character building happened in out of game intel menus that it honestly felt like what was happening in the maps themselves kinda came out of the blue if you weren’t paying attention to the intel system. Like Samantha popping up at the end of Forsaken to stop the big bad in that map (who himself is almost entirely characterized through intel) and take control of the dark aether with super powers you’d only know about if you’d paid attention to the intel throughout the season. It was a system that felt very disconnected from the gameplay in a way that really, in my opinion, failed to recapture the things that made other Black Ops game’s stories good.

But if Treyarch leaves all the vital story information in the maps and easter eggs themselves, the character development, the major story revelations, and any other vital details stay as something anyone would pick up on just playing these maps without even looking in the intel menu, while some of the more obscure and unnecessary lore details like how the zombies have a kind of military system with ranks and generals is left to the intel system for the most dedicated lore junkies to see I think the system would be perfect. Plus being able to rewatch EE cinematics via the intel menu would be pretty cool too.

The phrasing on the second bullet point is so particular that it’s sussy, I still believe that they plan on developing the story outside of gameplay, albeit *less* than last time.
