That cache adds latency, but when you have 8 threads per core you can afford to have a few stalled threads. Really cool, but little useless, concept from IBM.
That’s an ECC protected DDR3 “CDIMM” memory module with 16 MB cache on the memory module. If the documentation I have here is right, that’s a 72-bit 32 GB memory stick rated at 1,600 MT/s.
Each CDIMM was actually the equivalent of four DIMMs on one PCB, with the memory controller on the same PCB to make it the CDIMM.
