I stopped using internet a long time ago. I don’t need any anti-virus.
Man it’s been ages. It’s true but wasn’t that big of a deal. I actually have windows defender turned off for the most part, except it doesn’t really turn off.

I’ve not used a anti virus or bug fixer in the last 10 years.
i do however have a USB key that i just insert into my computer every 6 months.
I walk my dog and come home to a computer that has everything i want installed and ready to go.
Just use common sense, do not download sketchy shit and you should be fine 😛
Windows Defender usually beats “proper” antivirus. Sometimes, by a lot.

Defender is not enough. I tried to help someone less tech savvy get M$ Office through a popular BT site. They had a regular Windows 10 install, no extrea AV, no Ad-Blocker. Just going the site saw them get hit with a redirrect attack that went to some pages that hit them again. So I went from a crash course on using BT to resetting dudes laptop. I probably won’t even recommend that people use any software from BT sites though, unless its in a virtual machine or on a separate computer, isolated from the rest of your network. You can do an AV scan at virus total on the .exe files for setup of office, for instance, and see that its full of malware. That’s just setup.exe, let alone the tool meant to activate the service. Don’t get me wrong there are plenty of software that you can get for free like that, but for me its no longer worth the risk. Get the installers from the source at the very least and then find a OEM key code on one of those reseller sites.
Pro tip if you want office you can install it pretty easilly from M$ – this is LTSC 2021 (long term support version).

Another way to get cheap or free software with no risk is to sign up for community college and get office for free (depending on the school) and steep discounts for other stuff, like Creative Cloud. These days I am fairly certain a lot of us more technically proficient and more likely to use a P2P network for file sharing likely have threats laying dormant on our hard drives. I could be wrong though. But for me there is little paid software that I really need to use and downloading software from shady sites is imo the #1 way to get malware.

The trouble with using a free product to replace windows defender, is you also sign up to get notifications every 30 seconds to upgrade to a paid version or their add-on options.
That’s more the reason I use defender, less spam.
