Microsoft confirms that Windows 11 Recall AI is not optional

  1. I confirm that my switch to Linux is inevitable

  2. Windows is genuinely getting worse with every update. I’m still on Windows 10 and won’t update until I absolutely have to

  3. Cpt_kaoss

Cute, like we can’t remove bloatware😂

  4. >*not optional*

Windows OS modders 2 hours after the update : oh-no-anyway.bat

  5. where there’s a will, there’s a way 😃

    just copying and pasting my post in a similar thread;

Whilst I am firm in the camp that recall is a terrible idea, nowhere in that article on Tomshardware or the Verge article it is referencing does it say that Microsoft actually confirms that it cant be uninstalled, just that being able to disable it in “Turn Windows Features on or off” was a bug.

    >”We did ask Microsoft whether it will allow Windows users to fully uninstall Recall, as this appearance in the Windows features list suggests, but the company only confirmed this was just “incorrectly listed” for now.” – Verge article

Having said that Microsofts inability to actually say the words “it can be uninstalled” is very telling.

Whats peoples fave linux distro for gaming? – I have experience with Ubuntu, worth sticking with that or try something else? Computer is almost entirely used for gaming.

Edit: Edited with the actual quote I missed. Thanks all for the suggestions.

Microsoft really knows people are just too dependent on Windows and they’re pushing the line really hard.

This will only lead to more people switching to other OSes.

  8. lol this is the kinda shit why i moved away from Windows a loooonnngg time ago

  9. zaxanrazor

Windows 11 would be such a good OS without MS’s self-harm kink.

Recall not optional? They’re actually insane.

  10. gurugabrielpradipaka

Someone will find the way for us to get rid of that Recall abomination. Don’t worry.

  11. BionicBruv

I will be looking forward to the 2-5min tutorial videos popping up everywhere teaching us how to turn this off.

  12. WalkAroundWorld

After decades of using Windows, you are going to force me to switch to Linux like this?

  13. glanses at the eu.
you have been here before microsoft.

  14. _tobias15_

ITT: no one knows what a copilot+ pc is and is scared their normal pc will get this feature

    >Once shipped, Recall will also be something Windows users can disable but not entirely remove.

I’m not losing too much sleep while I can disable it but it does seem stupid to not have an easy uninstall option. The initial announcement and general lack of security in recall was enough to get me to switch my Laptop to Ubuntu. Windows probably needs to get a fair bit worse before I try switching my desktop (gaming/work) but we might get there one day lol

If Linux would play nice with my surface pro 6 touch screen I’d change over on it.

  17. GoodGuyGaurav

As a species, we don’t bully Microsoft enough.

  18. Welp, cue Windows 11 getting blacklisted in basically every government department ever…

  19. digitalbladesreddit

Oh yes Cortana worked so well everyone wanted more 🙂

  20. vGraphsAlt

    > that its addition to that menu was a bug that will soon be fixed.

can you guys click on the thing and read

  21. Tyr_Kukulkan

Definitely going full Linux if this is true. Just got to de-Adobe my photography workflow, or very begrudgingly get a Mac for my photos (unlikely). Everything else is fine under Linux.

  22. Recall might not be optional, but *insert Linux distro* became an option.😒

  23. Gleerok99

Yeah, right. That doesn’t work, we aren’t apple..

They said my Lenovo would come running Linux (and an outdated distro) and they didn’t want to allow installing windows…. I hacked through it lol.

I installed W11 on a 10+ year old machine without TPM and not officially supported. Worked flawlessly and without a bunch of telemetry crap.

I’m 100% sure that will get modded the hell out of custom OS installs.

Ah shit, here we go again… Wouldn’t be the first time…

  25. WannabeAby

Do you have a minute to talk about gaming on linux ? 😀

  26. At first I was joking that I need to get familiar with Linux, now I kinda have to get familiar…

  27. Security guys are gonna go nuts over the top secret info saved in millions of screenshots on Microsofts servers.

  28. Moonraise

I keep getting downvoted on Reddit for wanting to stay on Windows 10. Its always “lol just upgrade bro” but then headlines like this shit keep popping up.

  29. raidebaron

Then Windows 11 is optional. Get bent Microsoft

  30. Joeman64p

Just the other day an update was forced to my Windows 10 – fucking Copilot was installed overnight.

Immediately deleted it, blocked all future updates

  31. Funny because Windows 11 is optional. In fact, I am opting out. Thanks.

  32. SparsePizza117

So how is Windows 11 getting approved for Government use? There’s absolutely no way they’d want AI on there.

Is Microsoft making acceptions and removing AI for Government facilities? If so, why not allow it for users?
