I would think ppl care more about perf gains gen to gen than power and nvidia knows tat sells. Will u not buy 5090 if its not tat power efficient but gives u a good perf jump?

… And here I was already pissed with the power consumption for the 4090 (ignoring the stupid price for the card). I mean, at this rate, I’ll have to start considering redoing my house wiring just for running the computer.
It’s bad enough that some people could have issues running 2 gaming PCs on the same circuit at the same time.

They do realize leaving a bit of room on the 12vhpwr connector is a better option right like an rtx 4090 has a tdp of 450W the connector has a max of 600W
Maybe they could make it take like 50-75W but the rtx 4090 already is a fire/melting hazard

People really need to learn what rumors mean, and what to read into (and what not to read into).
Seasonic isn’t really a leak, as much as it is a sign of “they have been tested up to this degree of wattage”. It’s normal to test up to a certain standard to be sure there’s headroom IN CASE the manufacturer, in this case Nvidia, decides to up the power, which they may or may not do even a week ahead of the public launch. Ampere and Lovelace were also tested to higher power draws than they ended up using. Heck, the 4090 is actually slightly cut-down from its full potential already, but it was still tested to a higher power draw than what the final release version ended up being targeted at.
Kopite saying recent Blackwell insights have higher power draws, doesn’t necessarily have any relation to launch spec. It just means they’re testing it internally, potentially to see what gains there could be had from increasing power, or to prepare for a potential Super variant later down the line, etc if AMD fights back more fiercely than anticipated.
All things considered, what is “higher power consumption” even, when we don’t know what the base specs supposedly were to begin with. If anything, the only “hint” there is, is that power targets higher than Lovelace are being tested internally. That’s it. Just like how there were even higher power targets tested for Lovelace prior to its launch. We all remember the “4090 may pull up to 600w!!” -and yes it was tested in that config, and PSUs were validated to support it. But it ultimately launched at a far lower wattage rating.
Most of these rumors will either be misread or are just a bit of speculative copium for now. Nothing concrete has left the table to even consider what rumors to favor over others.

At this point, I dont think anyone gives a fuck at how much performance overhead there is vs. previous generations, juet make the damn thungs affordable again. I cannot even fathom paying $1,000 for a not even top end GPU.

At this point in time, I think we’re supposed to be past the “more electricity means more power” and should be leaning on more performance with less power.
Something along the lines of “introducing the RTX 5080. As good as a 4090 but uses only 220W”. Something similar to the way they destroyed the 3090 with the 4070Ti.
It’s like reliving the Gigahertz race all over again.
