The Series S really is a shit stain on the industry.

The serie S is a cheap console, 300 bucks you have access to your next-gen sports games, your COD etc. especially as a gamepass console.
Many bought one during the pandemic given the (horrific) logistics situation of the serie X and the PS5.
I think the idea is great, but forcing developers to have full compatibility rather than maybe serie S and eventually use xcloud or azure cloud resources for some games, that’s going to backfire with newer games, with UE5 nanites etc.
Now, a lot of games are badly optimized and resort to lot of RAM usage + upscaling (DLSS, FSR,..) of course,…but still, 8GB + 2GB system for the whole gaming vram & system ram..for a console supposed to stay active until 2028 or something AND only 100E cheaper than a PS5 digital, wrong imho.

Very soon devs will just altogether skip the Series X because of issues optimizing on the Series S. the 2nd half if the gen with the pro coming out is going to definitely see devs trying to push the limits

I wouldn’t bother if I was in their shoes.

drop support for Xbox. Make Microsoft figure their shit out. They’re selling the least consoles anyway. Stop catering to this bullshit.

Say what you will about Nintendo, but they don’t force every release on their underpowered console

It is going super super interesting what happens with GTA VI. I see two possibilities both of which will cause a lot of discussion. (1) Rockstar fails to port GTA VI to Series S, which will be a sight to see. (2) Rockstar actually brings GTA VI to Series S. This will make rest of the industry look like they never optimized their games. But tbf Rockstar has billions while rest of them are playing with peanuts in comparison.
Both will be fun to follow, since I am on PC anyways and not need to worry about this. Looking at GTA VI trailer, I have no clue how they manage to bring to Series S. Rockstar needs to do some tech magic. This could also be why there hasn’t been a trailer in a long time. Cyberpunk apparently runs extremely well even with high NPC density, but GTA would be releasing 6 years later and more advanced tech. So it’ll be interesting.

The solution to the Series S is to turn it into an exclusively streaming device for future releases. This way it is no longer a requirement to port games to it, but make them streamable. Or Xbox should just cut it out of their portfolio.

Since dropping the SS version and releasing only on the SX would be a PR nightmare for Microsoft, the easiest way out is to put only cloud games on the SS
If the studio is down to spend time and resources to develop a version for it then ok, if not then just focus on the SX and cloud

It’ll be interesting to see how Funcom tackles this challenge. Fingers crossed for an epic adaptation that makes the most of the console’s capabilities

Learn how to optimize and stop bitching…If you can’t get a game to run on the series S, you shouldn’t be a part of the dev team.

heres the solution
stop capitulating to microsoft

Developers just get used to the new consoles and forget that they used to optimize for the old ones. Ps4 and Xbox one weren’t that long ago, and they got games to work on them just fine.
Fast_Passenger_2889
Developers have become lazy to optimise their damn games and rely too much on scaling techniques to improve performance

Why the fuck it’s suddenly a challenge when you already optimizing games for hundreds if not thousands different PC rigs?

If I was a Series X owner and I was told that a console which cost half the price of what I paid is holding up a release on my system, I would be pissed.

Been an Xbox fan since the OG, but the series s needs to die. I hope it phases out with the new consoles in a few years and there is only one Xbox
MuckingFountains
Xbox fucked up the entire generation with the series s. Now instead of developers pushing the limits they have to make sure things work on the S as well.
