So I have recently swapped to a new CPU (both are 7950x3d), re-routed cooling order, new thermal pads. I then run some benchmark (Cinebench R23.2) to get some base line. The results are pretty interesting. Below are the changes

  • CPU both are 7950x3d. Latest Asus BIOS with PBO disabled. Everything is stock even RAMs are non EXPO

  • Current cooling order 3×360 rads > Pump / Res combo > CPU > GPU (TUF 4090 RTX OC) vs last config of Pump / Res combo > CPU > 1×360 rad > GPU > 2×360 rads.

  • Current Thermal Pad is Linus Tech Honeywell PTM7950 vs Amazon PTM7950 (not Honeywell).

  • Fan curves have never changed.

Here're the results from these changes

  • With current config, BIOS temp is 40C vs 48C compared to previous config.

  • Windows idle temp is 40C vs 48C with the old config (a whooping 8C lower)

  • Cinebench R23.2 results

  • 33244 Multi Core vs 35394 (over 2K lower)

  • Max temp 87.1C vs 81.4C (Over 6C higher at max load)

  • Max Clocks per core are around 5.1MHz on CC0, 5.250Mhz on CCD1 vs 5.050MHz on CCD0, 5.3MHz on CCD1 compared to the previous config.

  • Max Power is around 153W vs 148.4W (I noticed the new config runs at 94% PPT while it never got over 90% PPT on the previous one)

Note: All HWiNFO readings were refresh couple seconds into the run so they only capture the valid readings during the run.

So from what I've learned from the new setup, It is way cooler at idle, but a lot hotter at max load, probably because it run a bit faster (slightly higher speed and consumed more wattage), but on the other hand, has one of the worst performance I've ever had on this CPU (with over 2K lower than the previous setup). How would you make sense from all of these?
