I think most number publications fuck themselves over by not giving enough lower numbers to make it clear that 7 is way above average. 5 should be a average game. But they barely go under 7 unless the game is God awful

Number scale is stupid. Games are too subjective to really give a good assessment using a single number alone. Comparing number scores is even stupider. You are comparing apples to oranges at that point.

IGN has no standards when it comes to grading, and they allow the personal biases of the reviewer to affect the scores they give to the games they review. It is also worth pointing out that a former reviewer of theirs has openly stated that the scores are meaningless, as they do not affect the sales of said games.

When I am trying to find walkthroughs for things, IGN is always at the top of the list. The walkthroughs are littered with advertisements and very predatory. Anyone got a suggestion on a better place to find walkthroughs because I would like to cut IGN out of my life entirely.

I am not defending SW or Concord, but it seems to me very possible that both games actually are a 7/10 – it’s just that no one wants a 7/10 open world ubisoft star wars game or a 7/10 hero shooter that costs money when others are free.
Just because a game is decent doesn’t mean it will garner an active playerbase. Judging from reviews of Concord, for example, the gunplay and actual gameplay systems do seem to be pretty decent, but why bother playing it when better free alternatives exist?
