Keys for ALPHA tests are going for $100? Business model patterned off Star Citizen shouldn’t really be something a dev aspires to.

“If you’re curious to get in on the action, there are Ashes of Creation Alpha 2 keys on sale – but they start at $100, and don’t include access to the full game, only the alpha tests.”
What a joke. I have zero interest to pay that much money to he a tester for this PoS looking game.
ExistingTheDream
I don’t think 40 person raids is anything but nostalgia for WoW and EQ. That strat did not work well for Wildstar.
softgothwaifu
Looks like a copy of WoW, but I don’t know, the combat doesn’t look that good.
PooperJackson
The boss fight looks passable at best. Seems to repeat the same couple of attacks over and over. It might be more fun if you’re also having to fend off other players while doing it though.
Redfeather1975
I really hope it’s not 40 people in the office playing together and actually players across the world. Otherwise we got 8 more years to wait.
hobbitfeet22
“Highly anticipated” by who? I have never even heard of this rip off so I can’t imagine I’m alone lol
TonyVstar
I’d love to get back into MMORPGs but they all demand a monthly subscription. Even free to play just bog you don’t with inconveniences until you pay monthly
I’d play this if they don’t do that, or the monthly fee is more reasonable, like $5
BeardyBaldyBald
AoC is still a thing? For real, or is this just about not getting sued for that 3 mil kickstarter?
LongAlienFinger
Jesus, the gameplay looks like it’s from 10 years ago. Compare this to The War Within gameplay for example, and come back and tell me if this seems worth the time or money.
**Expect to pay $120 to gain access to Ashes of Creation Alpha 2 from phase one, $110 from phase two, and $100 from phase three. Note also that phase one access from these keys begins Friday November 8, two weeks after the initial release, and that all three keys only give you access to the alpha version and won’t include future beta tests or the final game.**
Anticipated by whom exactly? This thing’s been a low effort attempt to get Star Citizen money for half a decade now.
LibraryOwlAz
I’ll get excited when we see a release date, and they stop selling concept art promising skins and mounts that don’t exist yet.
Complete vaporware.
gummyworm21_
I’m shocked this game hasn’t died in development yet.
Physicist_Gamer
Boss fight looked cool visually
Seemed pretty boring mechanically though. AoE slam, fire DoT, slow moving aoe fire, dragon fly in straight line like always. Not that WoW doesn’t still do some of this on every dragon fight too.
I might be biased though, as I enjoy mmo raids that are more difficult and faster paced.
Either way, not paying for alpha. Charging for alpha like that seems like a huge PR mistake. Looking greedy while your game is not even in beta yet isn’t a good look.
InternalReveal1546
Meh
Trapped_Mechanic
I’m pretty over high player count raids tbh. Coordinating them is just short of a hell on Earth and even if you’re just attending one, most of the time you’re waiting on several late attendants unless you’ve got a whole bench lined up and that opens a whole different set of problems.
~10 man is my *personal* limit, but that’s just like, my opinion.
pirate135246
The Star Citizen of MMOs. Designed from the ground up to milk people and never release
Tuffarelli
Imagine paying $100+ to alpha test something.
metallee98
Highly anticipated? I haven’t heard a peep about this game before now. Is it new?
Derpykins666
I’m super hesitantly excited for the game, mostly because I think I just want a good mmo to play that’s fresh and isn’t filled with 10+ years of bloat.
But I do worry this game is basically just trying to be WoW 2.0 – Mechanically and Quest wise, it kind of looks and seems like a classic mmo with a modern fresh coat of paint. But there really isn’t anything to do but wait for the game to come out and see. Also from my own personal experience, 40 man raids isn’t why I liked Old WoW, and honestly it was hard for me to even experience that kind of content back in the day. That’s a LOT of people to have sitting in one place coordinated and all.
samurai1226
I was actually looking forward to it since there are no other mmos coming up and some ideas look interesting. But there’s no way in hell I will spend $120 to play just 3 alpha phases over the course of the next that include any further beta or the final game. It really shows how it’s more about financing a scummy-looking never ending development instead of working towards a final release you can play for a reasonable amount of money.
RedSqui
40? Yeah I don’t expect this to be around for long. If it comes out.
GodBlessPigs
Only idiots would pay that much money to get alpha access. Good sign that this game will die 6 months after release.
NuyoRican79
Is this game ever coming out??
Supersruzz
Nobody wants 40 players raids. Those that say they do are lying to themselves, it’s a huge pain in the ass just to get 10 people to raid.
daemonk
Oh great. I love staring at stat bars and pressing buttons at pre-determined times while a clusterfuck of graphics blind me to what going on on-screen. Might as well go play pen and paper rpg.
kdebones
Maybe it’s just me…. but this kinda looks like ass?
darknessforgives
40 person raid sounds good and fun until you realize you’re depending on 39 people to not fuck up and wipe the raid.
Let alone myself not fucking up and wasting 39 players time.
Itchy_Training_88
I know graphic’s are not everything, but these graphics look really dated already, and its still at least 2-3 years from full release.
DrPoopen
I don’t think showing off 40 player content in a massively multiplayer online game is a flex.
In earlier and real MMOs we had areas like darkness falls with hundreds in a raid. Or you had UO with 500 people in one shared world.
Rohkha
Is that the game that instead of paying for testers asks of its fanbase to buy super expensive keys to do the testing for them?
While calling it « a ways to support the game, it’s not an early purchase/early access ».
ImDocDangerous
I don’t like 40-man content in practice. It’s just too many people to design a fun, tight fight over. In high end FF14 content, EVERYONE has to actually do the mechanics, because there’s only 8 people. So you end up with a really nicely tuned and designed fight. When there’s 40 people, statistically some of them are gonna lag, be AFK, or just be bad. It’s too many people to manage. So the fights end up being about a small group of people actually doing the mechanics while everyone else just zergs it
PatienceAlarming6566
My anticipation died when they scrapped the whole game for the third time in development and tried releasing a battle royale instead in 2019 (I think?).
This game has a cursed development and I am absolutely not certain about this games future enough to actually consider buying into it.
Also – I could just go to FF14 if I wanted large raids.
