The real crime isn’t that we, the people that lived through the golden age of zombies, won’t have fun new maps to play. The real crime is that the kids just getting into cod will likely never experience PEAK. (BO3 was a decade ago btw)

It’s so insane that BO3, a decade old game, holds up so well in every way to the new games.

Excluding the dumpster fire that was Vanguard, and waw cause i couldnt care less, bo3 is my least played zombies title due to how boring i find it

  3. Majestic_Green_5194

So current 14 year olds today had about a 0% chance of playing this at launch even for bo3 😞 saddening

  4. Willing-Bother-8684

Used a map from bo2 to say bo3 was peak?

  5. talladega-night

I don’t even want a zombies chronicles 2. ZC was peak because the BO3 engine was peak.

Bringing back old maps just to add loadouts and salvage to them (and remove shields) would be hot garbage.

All they have to do is buy an old game to experience peak. As a retro game enjoyer in general, I have no sympathy for someone who won’t go back even one generation.

Not to mention, the current generation still supports as far back as Ghosts on PlayStation, and right back to the start everywhere else.

BO3 and BO4 launch were peak zombies, these had the most resources of any of the modes, I know for a fact Warzone sucked up a lot of zombies funding.

We simply won’t reach those heights again, I don’t think we should bash zombies devs about this, they likely don’t have the resources anymore to do what BO3/4 players expect for zombies.

I’d point your concerns with Activision, they pushed for every COD being fully integrated with each other and it has muddied the water so much they are all the same.

I’ve played all of the core Treyarch Zombies since the mode came out in 2008. While there’s the obvious change in art direction and tone, the actual maps have pretty much always been good if not great. BO3 is heralded for its everything, and it is probably the best overall, but none of them are bad. There are certainly difficult and more tedious maps for sure, but I’ve never played a core Treyarch Zombies and felt disappointed. (I never played Infinity Ward’s zombies or Vanguards.)

Cold War certainly had its shortcomings, but even with its limited map selection, I’d say they were all fun to play and CW remains one of my most played Zombies modes. So much so that I wanted to grind out camo masteries in it, and I don’t do grinding for a game if I don’t enjoy it. I loved Die Maschine and Mauer der Toten especially. I wish they had done more with darkness if anything. Sure, there weren’t thousand-foot tall robots or dragons, but, it was going for a more grounded world and story-telling. Is that better? That’s subjective.

Of course this is all subjective, but I remember a time where people complained that BO3’s maps were too complicated, or that the first few maps of BO2 were too difficult with their myriad hazards. Over time, you get used to it and appreciate the positives way more than the negatives. I’m not saying BO6 is going to be perfect or that’ll it exceed expectations. I have no idea how it’s going to turn out until I’ve had the chance to play it. I also accept that the audience is changing as are expectations. We get two launch maps, meant to appeal to two different groups. What will the future maps be like? No idea. To someone playing today though, who was maybe too young to play old Zombies, maybe this new era will be their peak Zombies. Or maybe it won’t be.

I’ll admit. It’s insane how far the quality has dropped. Is it all on Warzone? I don’t think so. I’m sure the transition with Microsoft and just staff. But I am mind boggled that the creativity is gone

I’ve noticed that nearly everyone who wants to experience zombies just buys BO3 instead of the newer games, that’s why you can still see it as one of the most selling games on steam.

the map you’re showing was from black ops 2. i would argue that the downfall of zombies started in black ops 3 with the introduction of gobblegums.

  12. FullMetalField4

    BO3 wasn’t peak. That would be W@W and BO1.

  13. CustardEducational99

Playing since BO1, loved CW more than BO3 and can’t wait for BO6.

  14. Iamburnsey

The fucking crying are here is beyond pathetic

  15. just_window_shooping

They can play Black Ops 3 right now lmao

Thinking about how BO3 is about to be a decade old makes me SICK omg …

To think I’ve been playing this game since I was 11 (& even before with the previous titles) wow .

I grew up on this shit LITERALLY & you’re right – the kids these days won’t know how FUN it was

  17. _SCARY_HOURS_

Can you play bo3 on Ps5 and Xbox series s/x???

  18. alphomegay

please, i’ve been playing and loving zombies since waw and I’m hyped as hell for bo6. speak for yourself.

Before I went back to school I substitute taught the 7-12 grade levels. I would sometimes see kids gaming in class (it’s a sub day, of course they’re taking a break).

And you know what? It was always games from my generation. Pokémon Emerald, flash games, older COD titles, even the iOS games like Clash Royale.

It was really interesting talking with teen boys about how gaming is so bad right now. There’s this idea that it’s just brain rot iPad kids eating up the slop of new games, which does exist, but is massively overblown. Like some of them said they had FOMO from my time (graduated high school about 10 years ago) of being pre-short form video and when gaming didn’t seem AI generated.

Like of course they can, and do, still play the old games. Games don’t expire, not even Flash games with the existence of archiving.

But there was a huge community component which correlated with 1. Discord not existing 2. The number of players online at any given time. Midnight releases were a thing. There was excitement at the new COD, because they were actually good.

That is what I fear (and, honestly, expect) will never come back. Whales that eat slop are clearly more profitable than culturally defining bangers that have a lasting impression. There clearly needs to be some motive other than profit to yield great games, unfortunately. It’s like fast fashion; with how cheaply made these new games are. But there’s whales to eat it up, so why wouldn’t Activision keep doing it? They’re making billions.

IDK. Part of me wants to make a lot of money and fund my own gaming projects with that mission statement of “what games do I like to play?” And just accept that this is for hobby and I will be losing on this investment monetarily, but culturally? Fucking priceless.

Until that happens (by anyone who’s willing and able) I think gaming, as we know it as a cultural phenomenon, is dead.

It’s hard to believe that it was that long ago… I’d like to say CoD has come a long way but it really hasn’t.

  21. AnimeGokuSolos

I actually played this kind of stuff when I was a teenager, especially BO3 I just prefer some features in Cold War, new zombies.

  22. Norway643

    Bo2: has tranzit

Every other cod: doesn’t have tranzit

    This proves BO2 is peak

  23. flyingtacodog

You know they can just go and play the old maps?

  24. IncrediblySapphic

origins wasn’t good and it’s where the concept jumped the shark. revelations was also bad and it’s where they jumped the kraken.

  25. shithulhu

bo3 wasnt peak… it was the beginning of the end making the mode so fkn easy.
