To those I debated with in 2022 for saying games had shitty optimization lately, and I said it was their hardware not the games. Time has brought karma upon me and I publicly apologize. Games are indeed terribly optimized.

We should make game optimization a legal requirement, citing accessibility to such games by the general public and preventing e waste.

I can’t remember where it was that I saw someone saying “owning a 4090 has been what made me realise how poorly games actually perform” – I have to agree

If your eyes can’t see more than 30 fps, you should be fine for couple years more!

Play old games and buy cheap hardware. Problem solved.

People like you OP are the reason why I didnt bother getting a PC till later on in life. Telling people its a hardware issue and basically telling us that you either go super high end or go home, is what made me hate PC elitists so much.

Cool take. Now go and compare those 2022 and 2024 games visually.

Honestly I’ve seen relatively few games that have poor performance scaling. Many of the games that people think are poorly optimized run fine on budget builds. I say this as someone who owns one. You just have to realize that certain settings aren’t necessary to get a good image.

Is it because games are unoptimized or current hardware isn’t enough to keep up (for example, black myth wukong)? How to draw a line between them?

Who tf spends 4000$ on a high end pc tho? Lol

I kid you not, Deadlock running at 30-40ish fps on my 7900xtx is just pathetic. Game on source engine, that looks like team fortress 2 can’t run stable on top tier amd hardware. What happened with game industry?

I had this revelation with the release of AC Unity.
Got the game looked amazing and ran pretty much flawless. And then I went on the internet and saw all the posts about bugs and stuff. Couldn’t understand why I was the special one. And then I realized while some of those issues were on console, most of them were on PC. And I was playing it on console.
And then it clicked. Oh, they are making more profit on console, probably linked to the fact that pirating on consoles is more difficult and has drawbacks such as no online services or up to date software. Developers are just doing math and deciding it’s not worth the money or time to spend more time on PC optimization.
While there are exceptions, CoD being a huge one that doesn’t get enough credit for its optimization, this hasn’t changed much over the years. Elden Ring was optimized better on console, FFVII Remake way better on console, I don’t have another example because those are the only two games I’ve played on both platforms since.
TL;DR I don’t think it’s because these talented devs can’t optimize well, I think their boss is telling them don’t bother wasting your time, it will hurt my pocket

yayuuu
What game do you play that runs on 60 fps with dlss + frame gen?
I have slightly lower resolution (3440×1440) but also only RTX 4070 and games run at much higher FPS with dlss and frame gen. Here’s an example – ultra settings, DLSSQ and frame gen: [https://youtu.be/uVdXYYXi5fk](https://youtu.be/uVdXYYXi5fk)
Theoretically I could play it with only either DLSSQ or frame gen (I was getting 50-55 FPS native), but only frame gen at that FPS was giving me too high latency, so DLSSQ was a better choice, but at the same time turning DLSSQ was giving me enough frames so I could no longer feel bad latency, so why not just use both I guess. Also I’ll be playing this game on the TV, which is 4k 60Hz so also no problem there – just tried the first mission on the monitor.
The games that I want to play soon are Space Marine 2, Final Fantasy XVI, Diablo 4 Vessel of Hatred – I don’t think I’ll have any issues with them.
