Sam flew in there because that was likely the only way to stop the forsaken, he’s powerful af but Sam got the dark aether powers and weakened him by flying in there so they could trap him in the drone
I think the director wanted to capture it so he can use it for whatever
Thing is as we know from Liberty falls, it isn’t the forsaken in the ball, it’s Sam. Maybe by Sam flying in there she merged with it, or maybe she killed it and absorbed its power. I hope they explain that and it’s not a retcon because it’s pretty interesting
Capturing The Forsaken was the whole plan, so they could harness its power. I think the only way to close the Dark Aether rift so The Forsaken could be captured was for Samantha to enter, closing it from the inside
