This was never supposed to be a $1-2k/year hobby assuming regular hardware upgrades and game purchases. Now we’re getting same cost sneak attack downgrades thrown in the mix?

1. Prices are up to the AIB partners, not Nvidia. Considering there’s already several models that are regularly priced below the $549 MSRP, I imagine we’ll see more of that, if anything.
2. Like the article states, going from GDDR6X at 21Gbps to GDDR6 at 20Gbps is a 5% reduction in pure bandwidth. Given that the Ada architecture has large amounts of L2 cache, performance tends to scale with core count, not memory bandwidth (see the mild performance difference between the 4070-Ti and 4070-Ti Super. More memory bandwidth didn’t make a difference, the performance scaled with core count only). So, the actual performance impact will likely be exactly 0%, except extreme edge cases like 4k path tracing in Alan Wake 2 with DLSS 3.

7900 GRE is a direct competitor to 4070 Super (which is unchanged), not ol’ 4070.
