Drillman just going to see how it plays out with Quickman before he gets involved

  2. Mega man 1 US is probably equally bad. Also known as “bad boxart mega man”

It’s so funny to me how much time and energy was spent in the 80s trying to pretend like Japanese art and culture didn’t exist, because media distributors were confident that Americans would be incapable of handling it. Like…growing up in that time and having their games and shows slowly trickle over here, it honestly feels like they didn’t want me to be aware that the country of Japan *existed*. Like they were trying to keep that fact hush-hush.

“You know what kids like? Transforming robot fighter jets. Let’s sell these kids some Macross toys, …except we’re calling it Robotech. Now it says here in the show notes, that the main character is named ‘Hikaru Ichijyo’, but since we’re **goddamn Americans**, we’re just gonna call him ‘Rick Hunter’ “.

    Bandit Keith ass mother fuckers.

This is what they meant when they said, don’t judge a book by its cover

Absolutely! The cover art is a true masterpiece, capturing the essence of the game perfectly. The vibrant colors and dynamic poses really make it stand out. It’s a classic that will always hold a special place in my heart.

This is common knowledge! The game only came out…

    Oh my…

Hahaha! I remember buying this game when it released, and even back then as a kid I thought the box art was ridiculous.

There were all sorts of weird box art during that time, because they thought Western audiences wouldn’t like the anime style of the characters.

A lot of the nes games had ridiculous artwork. 😂

[Explained by the artist](https://www.rockman-corner.com/2013/06/meet-man-who-drew-mega-man-2s-box-art.html), Mark Ericksen:

    >So we’re talking about the infamous Mega Man 2 where Mega Man is actually running around waving a pistol! Okay so, the question on everyone’s mind is ‘how could the illustrator be such a complete idiot that he didn’t realize that Mega Man had a cannon for an arm, and why is he holding a pistol for God’s sake.’

    >What happened was I had to go down to Capcom and do a game they just got in from Japan. They had a beta version; they were in a hurry to get this thing out. So I went down there. The gentlemen was the art director was there with the beta guy and they were waiting for me and I came with my pad and they started running the game. What we saw was this little pixelated figure of the famous Mega Man running around on the screen shooting. Bang, bang, bang, he’s shooting obviously like this with his arm [Marc points his arm forward]. So I said to the art director, ‘what is he shooting? What is he shooting with?’ The art director said, ‘he must have a pistol because I don’t see that he’s got a rifle so he must have a pistol.’

    >’So… a pistol? You want me to do a pistol?’ And he said, ‘yeah, let’s put a pistol in there.’ So I did what I was told and I put the pistol in there. Add to the fact that they only had, like, a day and a half for me to do the painting and what you wound up with was not the greatest result but certainly a result that was not my fault. It was one of those things. Here’s my opportunity: I’m saying to everybody now that was not my fault! Talk to Capcom about the pistol.

  10. He has that rare right hand where his left hand should be syndrome.

I believe that’s why Light chopped off his arm to install a mega buster.

This is absolutely disgusting and another reason why I hate AI art. His legs don’t look realistic and they always mess up hands. It’s things like these that are taking away jobs from regular hardworking artists. Do not buy this game that uses AI art!

  12. tentxclegirl

That’s Mega Man with a fucking pistol!

  13. That guy is dodging a bullet. He must be pretty quick, man.

  14. johnroastbeef

It’s kinda cool though, it’s come full circle like shitty modern art.

  15. IceCreamLover124

Those games were so hard i remember.

  16. The Worlds of Power book of Megaman 2 removes his gun so he’s just pointing his fist out

  17. three-sense

Outside of the weird handgun thing and, I suppose, Dr. light instead of Wily…. I think it’s a badass cover art

  18. elfierroz

I just love Dr Willy behind drill man like: “it’s him, get him”

Im going to play this right now

  19. LiteralSans

Quick Man when Mega Man just pulls an actual gun on him

  20. Lespaul42

Honestly get it right with an arm cannon instead of a pistol and this is a fun rendition of what one could have felt the sprites were meant to represent.
