I remember being 9 years old on Christmas morning and waking up to this gem. This is easily one of my favorite experiences with a video game and I just wanted to share to see if anyone agreed
Both me and my friend got the game on the same morning and we would just sit around one another for hours while we both played the game. The moment we both realized we could travel to kanto and collect those gym badges too, we completely flipped out. Would love for Nintendo to an expansive, open world game for the switch. Almost like Palaworld except with story and cities/gyms to travel to!

I remember I got Silver version first. My mom surprised me with it while we ate Long John Silvers to celebrate me getting honor roll in elementary school. What a simpler time man
Still have my original copy of pokémon silver
I remember playing them on The 3ds since I nevermind had a Gameboy color
I had both games, but someone stole one of them out of my bag while at school
Got mine when I was maybe 7 or 8. Gold though. Had it stolen by my cousin’s friend and I had all the mons including celebi and mew 🙁
Gold was my first Pokémon game and it was such a fun game. Would run nizlockes and randomizers through an emulator of heart gold/emerald on my computer while in university
I loved Silver a lot. The day/night system was fun. Then when you reached Kanto, it was basically two games in one.
Blew my mind when I discovered I could take a train to blue / red.
I still like to bust out the n64, plug in Pokémon Stadium 2, and play gold version on the big screen through a gameboy adapter on my n64 controller
still have mine and my teal gameboy color. also have yellow and the booklet
I went Red => Yellow => Silver and it was Silver that most blew my mind.
The whole day/night cycle and having the entire Gen 1 world be visitable after the credits was wild for an 8-bit cart.
Getting silver version for Christmas still is one of my favorite childhood memories. I still have the original game and gameboy even now. I have never felt like that about another game ever lol.
my personal achievement is that i caught ho-oh with a standard pokeball
had a corner in the house where all my pokémon stuff was n64 everything
had a fight with my dad went out and the whole corner was gone 🙁
said if i asked about it again i’ll get smacked up
good times (not)
Silver and gold, still the best of all the games imo
The first pokemon game I ever played but never finished, never found the waterfall hm when I was a a little kid. Have fond memories of it cause my copy originally belonged to my uncle, I still hold on to it after all this years. Good times.
Pokemon Gold was what led me to become a Pokemon fan for many years, so many hours put onto it, I absolutely loved it. Then my mom back when I was a kid literally gave my gameboy color with pokemon gold and other games to some kids back from her country I’ve never even liked. They were incredibly irresponsible and picked on me from being a foreigner, games were either lost or sold because I’ve never seen my games again. I hope that one day once I get a software developer job that I can buy back my childhood games that I miss so much…
One of my favorite games of all time. Still have my original cartridge
When Red/Blue first came out it was expected that you owned it. You were mercilessly bullied for not having it. The version you owned was the most important thing about you. Lines were drawn in the sand. Wars were fought over it. Red Rover teams decided by it.
And that lasted right up to the release of Gold/Silver and for some reason as soon as those came out, nobody I knew gave a shit about it, or about Red/Blue divides anymore.
Did you know you can download an emulator on Android, then download the rom for Blue and go hang out with MISSINGNO??

One of my favorite games of all time.
Mime got stolen together with my green GameBoy Color when i was like 10. If anybody sees them please contact me.
I miss my Pokemons 🙁
The pokemon games they keep making, keep improving on each other!
The off-shoot game for the Switch, Legends of Arceus, is so fun! Crouching in tall grass behind a boulder so you don’t get spotted by a humongous angry Rapidash. Dodge rolling away from an attacking Parasect and throwing a ball at it while it’s back is turned is such a thrill. Then when a big storm drops on you and get accosted by furious Porygon, really make the heart beat faster!
And you don’t need any equipment for trade evolutions, the game offers items which allow you to catch every pokemon!
I really hope the next game coming out includes a lot of the new mechanics. I’ve never had more fun filling out the Pokédex.
As a kid I remember getting the Silver version on release day while a recently rich friend of mine got the gold one lol how typical. On a side note I thought that I only get to see Lugia but was pleasantly surprised when I saw Ho-oh too. Couldn’t catch it though and was very sad about it 😅
This also was the last Pokemon game I played and only recently tried Arcus and liked the vibe allot.
Loved Gen 1, 2, and even 3 which I played much later in my early 20s. Didn’t play pokemon again until Gen 8 due to it all being on handhelds and loved it (despite everyone not since they’ve played every gen).
Tried going back and playing Gen 4-7 on emulators and I can kinda see why – just rehashed story for every game and not a whole lot different between each generation.
At some point 15+ years ago, my game boy color, all games except Pokémon yellow, and all my GBA games except golden sun 1/2 disappeared. I’ve looked through all my old stuff at my parents house at least 5 times, hoping they’ll turn up 🙁 no luck
My first video game ever was Pokémon Crystal, and I was utterly enthralled. Such an amazing game
I played Red and Blue when I was 8 YO. 2 years after (I think) this one came out.
There has not been any single videogame, in my life so far, that gave me such a sense of an adventure. Maybe Chrono Trigger comes close but it is also a different kind of game.
I honestly wish that Nintendo and Gamefreak, somehow, do a Let’s Go Johto, I would 100% buy it day one.
But I still have trauma from Whitney’s Miltank.
Does anyone remember defeating the elite four then being like “WHAT? I CAN PLAY THROUGH KANTO NOW?!”
I have the best memories with Silver over any other version. I’ll never forget buying a trading cable and getting Pikachu, Charizard, Bulbasaur, Squirtle and Mewtwo! Then just going to the gyms and absolutely destroying them after hours and hours of leveling them up and grinding as much as I could. Playing in bed, underneath the covers with that shitty little light that you can attach to the GameBoy.
i waited for my dad to be able to import a gameboy and then had to take my cousin’s cartridge but at age 9, it is still the best gaming moment of my life to this day. I had all the game to myself to figure out, no more needing to watch my cousin play. Not that I didnt enjoy the memories, but playing by yourself with no time limits is different.
I got Pokemon Silver for my First Communion (catholic family, yadda yadda) and my older brother bought himself gold. Man those were the times. I remember my brother and me trading Ho-oh and Lugia to get the Pokedex entries, but he just sent me a Hoot-Hoot nicknamed Ho-oh and refused to trade back lol
Possibly my favorite Pokémon game of all time. The vibes are unmatched.
We are blessed to have experienced gaming then. Games do not have the same nostalgia and effect on me today that they did then.
