I remember the days of 10gigs=1day for my poor ass

Mk1 screwed me with this, installed over 100gb then the next time I sit down to play, I had to reformat the entire thing with a 112gb update which took an hour, then had to compile shaders all over again… honestly terrible experience, I didn’t get to play at all in the 2 hours I had sat down to play it…

It’s posts like these that show me that I’m truly blessed with gigabit internet.

I remember game where, if your internet connection crashed because of a phone call or some other obscure reason, you would lose the entire update of your game.
Some games took me a whole week to download.
CrosshairCam2
It’s all about the gaming experience.
SolidZealousideal115
Gigabit speed, but my biggest ssd is 240 GB and almost full of other games.
sephirothbahamut
That’s just on the player side.
Now try unreal on the developer side, enjoy “compiling shaders”
I legit get free time at work just cause i have to wait for unreal to wake up lol

Is this COD? Why on earth do they still keep getting away with this?

4 hour nap? Go outside bro 💀

4 hour nap!?

Forza Horizon 5 from 2021, still supports 4gb VRAM graphic card equivalent (2017 Radeon RX 570 or 2019 gtx 1650) when RTX 3000 series exist from 2020.
RX 570 8gb, 5 gb Vram usage. Medium setup FSR 1080p 80 fps open field and 50 fps downtown/creative map without stuttering with ssd and optimized shader compilation.

Recently wanted to update mw3: 85+ gigs update. Checked, only story + multiplayer of 3, no warzone or 2. Yeah, 600 Mbit is decent speed but cpu time unpacking is ass, I’ll skip it.

shader compilation once = no problemo.
Shader compilation every time you start that damn game? = I hate you, forza horizon, more than I could express in words

I feel relieved to be in a country where i can have 500Mbs down/10Mbs up not fibre at 10 usd a month
justdointhis4games
I feel for folks with slow download speeds but high quality shader compilation is always worth the wait, imho.
barto2007
Me downloading PoE on steam in 10 minutes only to have to wait for it to unpack the files and ruin my ssd performance for hours.. (hence why I use the official standalone client)

Reminds me of the Napster & Limewire download days. Downloading Dragon Ball movies took forever!

I remember when i was a kid and a 10gb game would be the whole night to instal.

Just don’t play cod , stop supporting shitty company.

Fast internet can solve the 4hr nap but shaders compilation is annoying in some games. TLOU, uncharted is the worst l have encountered. Worse part is everytime you update drivers you have to compile again.
DaVietDoomer114
The joke here is people still keep buying and playing COD while being fucked over by activision.

Meanwhile comcast/xfinity has a 1TB cap per month without another charge.

Download speed hasn’t been a problem for most people in first world countries for quite a long time. Shader compilation statyed becomes a fresh new hell some time around CoD MW19 / original Warzone releases. It just takes _so fucking long_ sometimes and when you only have a small window of time to play the game, it really grinds gears.
I really wish it’d compile as part of the update / install process via Steam or whatever.

Man I remember when I was in high-school and living with my parents and had a soul crushing 15 Mega *bit* pers second download. Now I’m living in my own place with Gigabit it’s such a huge upgrade… I can never go back

My max Internet speed is 50mbps or 7MBs so yeah it’s painful when downloading games more than 20GB
Blenderhead36
For real, though, I’ll take a few minutes of shader comp over 40 hours of random hitches 10 times out of 10.

Consoles used to have an advantage here to boast over us. Now even *they* have to put up with this shit. Sure, you get a disc, but you can’t start the disc until it installs 100 gigabytes of data off it. Basically the only option left for insert-and-play is Switch, and while you can say no, your Switch will still bitch at you to update the game you just inserted every time you open the software or bring it out of Sleep Mode.

Hot take: a single game shouldn’t take 20% of my storage.

you first-worlders with your high speed connections and strong currency don’t get to complain
us third-worlders with banana money rely on repacks and we’re 100% cool with it

Explain to me like I am 5. Why is shader compilation now a thing for the past few years?

Shader compilation on boot is 100x better than compilation stutter.

I just built a PC with a fast SSD, and now have 1gb internet. I’m feeling very spoiled, as I barely have to wait for anything anymore. But, I also grew up around (and before) dial-up. So, I paid my dues!
For those who don’t know; one song took days and you couldn’t use the only phone the family had while the Internet was active. There was no streaming anything that I was aware of.

Can download GTA 5 in about 15 mins. Gigabit is truly amazing
Look at Miss fancy pants, who can download 70GB in less than a day.
Those rookie numbers are no match for my gigabit sword
Leave computer on for days and you’ll be ready to play on the weekends 👌
I see some Call of Duty fellow here
It is a sick, sick world we live in
