The list of prohibitive topics, when reviewing Black Myth: Wukong, include “feminist propaganda… and other content that instigates negative discourse.”

They’re really making it easy to skip this game.

  2. LordAcorn

I assume all the gamergate people are going to be up in arms over this journalist censorship. Right?

  3. devil652_

Hopefully every gaming company enforces this soon

  4. blooming_lions

this is literally a fake news story, yall believe anything

  5. Garis_Kumala

Confirmed to be fake news. Op is spreading misinformation

  6. LifeBuilder

Said it in another post, I’ll say it here:

….or else what? Yea i get that there will be repercussions but…supporting Chinese censorship? Nah.

If you miss out on a code for their next game there are plenty of ways to skirt that rule. Kind of like China and any patent ever written ever. So they’d be proud you went behind their backs.

  7. Motorcat33

Who was excited for the monkey game anyways?

  8. Practical-Aside890

Not sure if this story is true or not . People can believe what they want time will tell. But more and more are saying it’s true as someone else said in the comments with the forbes article and the latest post about it in r/gamingLeaksandrumours

  9. This is like the Streisand effect of video games, literally heard more about this list of topics you can’t talk about than I have about the actual game.

  10. temetnoscesax

If the game is good people will buy it. I’m one of them. I couldn’t care less about “guidelines”.

  11. Count_Rugens_Finger

This is just bog-standard stuff in China. Their entire media culture is about cleansing any negative stuff from discourse. ESPECIALLY anything negative about China or the CCP.

  12. jedidude75

What do they consider “feminist propaganda” to be?

  13. Clear-Vacation-9913

This makes me worried the game is rather shallow in terms of artistic depth and storytelling. Maybe it’s aimed at young boys. It’s a good demographic to aim games at but gamers are more diverse and older now, if they ever do wish to expand.

Imagine  wanting china to be able to censor a different country’s journalist.

Ehat a wierd timeline we live in.

  15. Crazykiddingme

Would not liking the game “instigate negative discourse”? This sounds kind of shady.

I know i’ll get downvoted to hell for this, but I am tired of reviewers giving the games lesser score because it does not follow their political view, the reviewer who gave the game lower score because it lacks female characters, said that she only played 2 chapters, but reviewed the game anyway as a whole based on her expirence in first 2 chapters.

But the game does contain female character because I remember from previous trailer from few months ago there was drama AGAIN about this game over making female characters too pretty aka unrealistic beauty standards.

I am so tired of this trend in last few years where EVERY FUCKING streamer/youtuber/influencer or whatever the fuck they call themselves these dayas just waits to make a 1 hour drama video, every fucking time there is some made up drama in LITERALLY anything, just for sake of making a drama.

Literally only thing I keep hearing about this game that it lacks diversity and honestly I don’t care, because for them diversity only counts when they add non-white characters, where is my slavic representation in media? They always either portray us as bad Russian guys or Croatian/Serbian mafia. Witcher is one of the rare exceptions.

  17. CruffTheMagicDragon

What a weird list of things to avoid. I can’t imagine reviewers would include nudity or fetish topics

  18. MagnusCaseus

If you want a free copy of the game to review, you adhere to the agreement that your review will be solely about the game, no restrictions on criticism of the game and how it plays or runs, as long as the review is about the game only, you get a free copy review.

If you want to add political commentary on the game studio on the review, you’re gonna have to buy the game day 1 like the rest of us, seems fair to me.

Top selling game on steam btw, it’s going to be a another Hogwarts Legacy. Game journos never learn.

  19. Dr_StephenFalken

Fuck this game and these devs .. I buy so many games on release for that new thing high but no way am I picking this shit up unless I buy through a 3rd party and ensure these dicks get nothing ..

  20. Stachdragon

So they are trying to control speech? Not buying that. It’s time for a pirate hat.

  21. Gaara__Chikito_

Sounds like something a company would say when they know their product is shit.

  22. This game looked pretty good to me from what I’ve seen from the previews. This article has no effect on that, I think I’ll still be getting it.

  23. EdgarLasu

How about reviewing a game and not injecting your personal bias into it? Why is that so hard for reviewers.

  24. PezzoGuy

Here’s the full list for those without the time ~~or effort~~ to open the article:

    * Do NOT insult other influencers or players.
    * Do NOT use any offensive language/humor.
    * Do NOT include politics, violence, nudity, feminist propaganda, fetishization, and other content that instigates negative discourse.
    * Do NOT use trigger words such as ‘quarantine’ or ‘isolation’ or ‘COVID-19’.
    * Do NOT discuss content related to China’s game industry policies, opinions, news, etc.

The first two at least would be seen as standard professionalism.

  25. Hilde2348

This is wild this is getting so much attention. This went out to early reviewers and from what a lot of them have said most of this is pretty normal legal stuff they get with every review code. The feminism part is the one that stands out as odd but is more than likely so that the dumb IGN hit piece isn’t talked about which is understandable

  26. Queasy_Profit_9246

Man, I followed the link and found “IGN’s previous report” and now this sounds like it’s going to be an awesome game. I mean, I am not going to cover the bottom half of snake lady with my hand and take a crack at my eggplant, but it’s nice to know it’s been considered.
