Thats the fun part its why i had calamity mod for terraria. More bosses means more gear progression

Literally me with terraria after the wall of flesh, discovered cobalt and by the time I had enough for a full set id already upgraded too the one after which I have forgotten the name of, it’s been a while.

This is a good way to learn if you actually like a game. The grind *is* the game.

Valheim to a T, and then everyone races to get the new set. But also with new ore means a new biome, exploration, enemies and all that which made it a ton of fun.

I recently got suroundead on steam. It’s very much like day-z single player, but I haven’t played a whole lot of it yet.

I don’t care about having to upgrade my gear in survival games, I care about having to go to the other side of the fucking map because my base is in the starter zone and the shit I need is only found there, so I have to go there, get the stuff, and walk back over encumbered so I can build one piece of the armor (fuck you Valheim)

I wonder if games should be the other way around, so you start with all the gear and experience but over time everything including your health and stamina gets worn down which makes it harder as you progress (regress?).

FFXIV, the second I finally get my crafting gear fully pentamelded: “Guys, guys! New patch drop”

yes you have more absolute armor, but the monsters in the new area do more damage, so the experience is basically the same through the whole game.

Yeah, but you need the blue stuff to survive the area with the rainbow stuff.

Maybe instead, eat my balls dude.

Any vertical game including most mobile games, MMOs and survival games. Games where the focus is getting you always focused on the next fancy thing and not focused on enjoying the process is bad game design.

Can I upgrade the old gear into new gear? Then it’s perfectly fine.
In Factorio, I pretty much never make light armor or medium armor because I so rarely need to fight biters in the early game and when I do, it swings pretty heavily on if I can win or not so the small protection from the armor isn’t worth the resources.
BensBins
This is so accurate! Just when you think you’ve finally maxed out, the game throws a new ore at you and the grind starts all over again.

Minecraft did that, after years of “Diamond armor is the best” they added netherite armor.

The grind and progression IS the fun of the genre. If you crave just having the best stuff, survival gsmes are not for you.
