How is this a surprise? Vanguard is Riot’s own personal anticheat. You should expect that in every game they put out that can be competitive.

You’re upset that people can’t cheat in a PVP fighting game?
Donglemaetsro
I mean that’s fine, you do you man, it’s a private company and game. No one is twisting your arm here.

I know enough to know that I don’t understand what kernel level means and that a lot of people make it sound scary and a lot of others make it sound like it’s only scary if you don’t understand it.
All of this to me personally is irrelevant. I was never very interested in Valorant so when Vanguard first came out on it and I had it installed it started fucking with software and settings.
I had what at the time were high end components and I had put effort into overclocking, tuning fan curves, etc. And vanguard couldn’t differentiate between the software that manages overclocking, fan curves, RGB ram colours etc. from actual cheats.
It would disable all of it. I immediately uninstalled both Vanguard and Valorant because of the inconvenience and the fact that I didn’t really care to play Valorant that much meant it wasn’t much of a sacrifice.
I also got more interested in Teamfight Tactics than regular LoL and stopped playing LoL entirely, so when they announced that they were bringing Vanguard to LoL I didn’t really care. But despite the fact that TFT gets absolutely no benefit from it, because it shares a client with LoL you can’t play TFT without it either.
So now I’ve uninstalled all Riot software and don’t play any Riot games, all because they implemented a poorly designed overly intrusive piece of software that by most accounts doesn’t actually work to do what it’s supposed to do and impacts all kinds of things it shouldn’t.

You won’t be missed.

Oh, can’t play it on my steamdeck.
That’s a shame. Anyway

If you want to see what a weak anticheat is like go play CS2. The cheating is extremely rampant, all the way through ranking and everything else.
Edit I forgot about tencent being able to spy on you.

Bro this kernel level anticheat bullshit is just Crowdstrike 2.0 waiting to happen, now on consumer hardware. Stay 100 miles away from any games that have it.
jjobull
Honestly, I would love to get the machine of someone who hates Vanguard just to point out how many kernel level programs run on their PC’s most modern pvp games use kernel anti-cheat and most of these losers dont even know but bash vanguard the same 😑
Edit: ops seems to like Sea of thrives you will never guess but there anti cheat is kernel level :/
THE_HERO_777
I’d rather install an anti-cheat than go against cheaters.
uknownothing_jonsnow
only good anti cheat and we out here complaining
Ultra-Void
Waiting for Vanguard to have its own Crowdstrike situation
MonteBellmond
Kinda conflicted to get in on the game cause of the new found vulnerability of 3000, 2000, 1000 series AMD cpus

good, after playing OW i realize i dont give a fuck just insta ban cheaters.
SEDGE-DemonSeed
Are people still hung up over Vanguard? I’ts been what? 4 years now? Still waiting on my PC to blow up and all my money to be stolen.
beaglefat
The anti vangaurd thing is goofy to me. Probably the least amount of cheaters in a FPS ive ever played i dont think a company that large would do anything to my computer
AgoraSnepwasdeleted
Vanguard anticheat will never be trusted after its implementation into valorant literally started to block system32 files
kichunilla
Why do people care? I bought my pc for gaming and constantly switching between CS2 and Valorant, I would give my left lung to have a kernel level anticheat in CS2, you can not play that shit, if you want to play without cheaters you must use a third party app (Faceit). And still, people manage to use cheats. Take all of my kernels I don’t care
faverodefavero
OS makers, including Apple and MS, should really forbid any such kernel level operations for non essential probrams already.
Plus_sleep214
pc vegans when riot has an anti cheat that works: 😡
xXShadowAndrewXx
Ok dont play it, who tf cares if we lose a few thousand people if the game wont have cheaters
CallMeRenny84
I’d say that Vanguard is a necessary evil. Trust me, I hate the idea of a closed source software having kernel access on my system, but it is ridiculously effective at doing its job too
I’ve played both Valorant and CS2, and while cheaters are everywhere in CS2’s lobbies, I am yet to find a single one actually doing it in Valorant
LivingPapaya8
Fuck that malware
Jarwanator
Ever since this vanguard came in, my PC started jittering. Game keeps getting spikes in freezing and lag. Riot just gave me another reason to hate them. And the list was already long as it is but somehow they managed to find a way to piss me off.
Dangeroustrain
Already uninstalled Tft because of these garbage
KeycapS_
I’m fairly certain that 99% of people who complain about kernel-level anti-cheats give more personal data to Google and Meta, which is worse because those companies are known for selling it. While Riot has not been proven to sell user data.
