Just played through this MASTERPIECE for the first time, such an amazing game, better than most games that are released these days.

I bought a GameCube about 4 months ago, always wanted one, but never owned it as my family bought a PS2 during that generation and we couldn’t really afford multiple game consoles at that time. When checking out which GameCube exclusives there were and what I should try out, Chibi robo appeared on the list and I thought I’d give it a shot. The design of the titular character I was kind of familiar with, but I had ZERO idea what the game was about, I didn’t see any trailers, reviews or anything like that.

Well, as I wrote in the title of this post, I was BLOWN AWAY at how amazing the game is. The humor the overall design, the story, the gameplay, it was just absolute 100% fun! I don’t ever regret having a Playstation 2 during that generation of consoles, but I do regret not playing Chibi Robo until now.

When today games we usually get are live service, hero shooters, always online, remakes, sequels, prequels, remasters, bug filled unfinished, open world cash grabs. Chibi Robo came to me like a breath of fresh air that came out almost 20 years ago. I KNOW that there are still video games that come out today that feel like a complete package and a video game that doesn’t try to be “realistic” or “authentic” or too serious, but they are mostly in the indie scene of modern video games, and most are small/short games with not a lot content to them, or such low budget that you can sense the ambition of them, but can also see that had there been a bigger budget the game would have been something bigger/better.

Chibi Robo is such a huge and complete package, filled with so many things to do, it took me about a month and a half to complete the game (I don’t really have a lot of free time these days to play video games), and I tried getting everything finished with the side-stories and objectives, but I still have things (stickers) left to complete, the main story I did however finish and boy was it such a beautiful and emotional rollercoaster ride.

I read that the folks that made Chibi Robo actually very recently announced that they’re making a spiritual successor via kickstarted, and I’ll very much be supporting them!

Anyway, just wanted to share some love towards this game that up until a few months ago, I didn’t even know it existed, hopefully it brings it to some other people’s attention as well and they give it a shot as I feel like it’s definitely something gamers should try out with what kind of video games we receive these days.

Heeey! Have you tried Zip Lash? It has a roll and graphics! It like Gex it exists!

  3. Wish Nintendo cared about this series. Would love and remake or even just a port on Switch or whatever Switch 2 will be

I remember getting this after Katamari Damacy. Such a good snapshot of gaming.

    Is good? Yeah.

Better than most games that are released these days? Of course not.

I loved Chibi Robo I grew up on GameCube. I never did beat it – had to start over several times. Incredibly nostalgic

  7. I hate it when people say ‘games/movies/music used to be better’. The market is just more oversaturated these days. You absolutely can find great games made in recent years, hell last year we got games like alan wake 2 and balders gate 3 alone which are both critically acclaimed.

  8. A lot of the people who made this are working on a spiritual successor called koROBO, it’s on Kickstarter right now

Chibi Robo is one of my all time favorites as well! The most faithful sequel was a Japan only Nintendo DS release that you can find online by searching Okaeri Chibi Robo. It has a fully translated English patch. The original is still my favorite but I still think this sequel is fun to play as well.

Currently, the original Chibi Robo team (Skip) are trying to make a spiritual successor koRobo happen. They have a verryyyy alpha trailer up currently and it looks decent to me:

Can’t stress enough, if anybody loves this game as much as me, there’s a spiritual successor on kickstarter right now made by former SKIP developers that worked on the original Chibi-Robo.

It’s got 11 days left and is 89% of the way there. It’s called KoRobo and it looks to have the same spirit as the original Chibi-Robo and none of the stuff that didn’t work in the US sequels.

Obviously use your own discretion and caution.
