Prefix this by saying I’m not super confident in the bios but know my way around.

After watching J2C’s video on the bios microcode update I thought I’d give it a go and I’m weirdly I’m seeing higher values than before.

I built my machine 5/6 months ago (Asus ROG Strix Z790-A Gaming WiFi II + 14900k) and have been running the bios it shipped with since then.

On day two I applied the recommended settings :

  • PL1 / PL2 = 253w
  • ICC Max = 400a
  • MCE = Disabled Enforce all limits
  • LLC = Level 4
  • Everything else Auto

…and it’s been plane sailing – great temps, VID’s that rarely go over 1.4v (I know HWINFO isn’t super accurate on this).

After the update for the first time ever I’m seeing 1.5v and higher from just booting up and regularly goes above that when gaming with slightly higher temps too.

Again, I know HWINFO isn’t accurate but its clearly showing an increase which I’m slightly worried about. What do you guys think?

Cheers
