Until the X3D models come out and they can be tested and price compared I agree.
For gaming? Hell yes.
Gaming or productivity? If it’s the former, then yes the 78000X3D is better.
9000 series is basically a “refresh”. Less temp, somewhat less consumption, performance in general a bit better. Nothing to upgrade to if you are already at 7000 series.

I was waiting to hear about 9000 series since I’m still in return policy for 7800x3d I got on prime day sale for $324. Definitely sticking with it. I think even at normal pricing 7800x3d is the way to go for gaming.

The reviews are panning the 9700X for marginal improvements but I feel like the changes in architecture and power efficiency are going to make the 3D chip an absolute beast.
THIS is why we need a strong Intel. I enjoy dunking on Intel over Raptor Lake as much as anyone, but this is what you get when you’ve got no competitors.
I am intrigued by the decently lower TDP of the 9000 series. I run a small form factor build so less heat is a huge plus. Although I mainly use my machine for gaming, so I think I will wait and see on the X3D model.

Snag the 7800 and you can skip some generations of processors. Perhaps get the last gen AM5 and you’d be set again for years.

If you game at 1440p ultra wide or 4k at ultra detail and high refresh, you are probably closer to GPU limited than CPU right?

9700X is basically replacement for 7700 (the one without X) as it looks AMD wanted to have more performance gap between regular and X3D chips. this also means 9800X3D is likely to cost more than 7800X3D at launch.
Well according to the video from HardwareCanucks yes ? But it seems like the power efficiency is pretty great for this generation so they advised to wait for the 9700x3d. Personnally i don’t understand much beyond the very basics but i enjoy the graphs in these videos.

For gaming hands down it is better.
For gaming, if 4k, I’d buy used everything and go 5800x3D. Literally no difference and they weren’t able to be overclocked so they’re all good cpus at killer prices.

Stock? Yes, however the 9700x looks to have MASSIVE overclocking potential because AMD has lowered stock power limits. I’d wait and see if some YouTuber uploads a video overclocking the 9700x
