Back to the present. Sony kill Vita because they believe there is no future for handheld gaming. Mobile gaming are filled with ads and gambling den. Nintendo alone dominate the handheld market.

The PSVita ultimately failed because Sony has a really bad habit of abandoning products that don’t immediately take off.

It really blows my mind that mobile gaming turned to shit. Before Angry birds came out and ruined everything, they were releasing decent mobile games for a couple bucks a pop. I guess Angry Birds showed that it’s much more popular to make a mediocre game and fill it with ads and release it for free.

In the present, handheld gaming devices are making a huge comeback. It would be surprising if Microsoft and Sony didn’t have some kind of handhelds in development.

Yea but now that there are more alternatives coming out all the time and things like steamdeck are more affordable, this cannot stay the same way. Woefully low amount of exclusive games for how long the console has been around, and the only worthwhile multi-plat game is Skyrim.

Steam Deck (and competitors of the Steam Deck) showed that no. There’s a massive market for it.
iOS/Android, yeah that’s potential garbage (there are exceptions) but Steam Deck?
It’s an incredible machine and one of my best purchases in a decade

Nah Sony fucked over vita with proprietary memory card that 10x more expensive than a sd card with same capacity

As someone who bought two Vita and two psp, this hurt alot. Loved the console, and had so many good games.
Hopefully the Switch 2.0 will be backward compatible.

Steam will persevere

Handheld gaming sucks anyways.

To be fair, the PSVita had a ton of stupid decisions which killed it before launch even.
Nintendo had to support the 3DS because the Wii U also had a ton of poor decisions before launch.
I loved the Wii U and Vita, but they were never gonna succeed ultimately.
This is a pretty circle jerky post ignoring a lot of what happened in that time.
Edit: ah, this user posts to gamingcirclejerk. That explains it.

*Chuckles and goes back to playing Steam Deck*

I don’t really feel like mobile games are a competitor to hand-held games or console/pc games. Mobile games cater to a completely different kind of consumer

The vita is the biggest tragedy for gamers. It had the potential to utterly dominate the mobile market but Sony screwed the pooch, dropped the ball, and blundered it into a failure.
