Not every wonder weapon should be OP
Hot take: Not every wonder weapon needs to be OP or even good. I think some maps benefit from having a bad-mediocre wonder weapon. For example I think the winters howl in 5 was great for the map. It helped to make the map so much more difficult since there was no good wonder weapon to look forward to. Zombies has lost its stress and anxiety, and I think having a few challenging maps with more bad-mid wonder weapons can add that stress and anxiety of old zombies.

The title had me confused.
Personally, I agree with you *to an extent*. But overall I believe the anxiety and difficulty you speak of (which I also miss, I prefer maps where you die by being overwhelmed rather than maps where you die of boredom) should come from the zombie behavior and map layouts making them more unforgiving in those aspects.
Not every Wonder Weapon needs to be Apothicon Servant tier, but at the same time if you want that stress and anxiety then getting a Wonder Weapon from the box should be that “glimmer of hope” in those stressful times, and having it be shit would just feel insulting.
I think it depends. I kind of liked how some wonder weapons are the most OP/everyone’s favorite, but then you have some that are like the Origin Staffs, DE bows, AE Gauntlets, or the DIE Shockwave. They are ok, but have great paths to upgrade or customize them. I know like the staff or gauntlets only start with 4 variants, but they can become stronger. I like good wonder weapons that became great wonder weapons, and it’s even better if you can choose a variant. One variant might be the best, but you don’t have to always use it. CoD zombies is great for the casual or the grind for the high rounds or EE.
>For example I think the winters howl in 5 was great for the map
OP… the Winter’s Howl was terrible, it was not a good wonder weapon at all, you’d be better off with the ray gun than the winter’s howl.
>It helped to make the map so much more difficult since there was no good wonder weapon to look forward to.
OP, the winter’s howl isn’t the reason why five is hard. The reason it’s hard is because it’s extremely close-quarters and crowded. You can VERY well get down on an early round on that map since you have barely any space to move. Bad wonder weapon =/= challenging map.
>Zombies has lost its stress and anxiety
Ah yes because I, a person with an anxiety disorder, totally come to play Zombies to get stressed. Not because I actually want to have fun or calm down or anything, no, definitely not that. /s
Like I’m not saying maps shouldn’t be challenging, but maps like Shangri-La and Tranzit are maps that I don’t play because of the risk of getting down by round 10. Maps like Nuketown, Gorod Krovi and Zetsubou are hard maps, but they’re still fun to play. Some can argue that Origins is somewhat difficult. But the thing is, we NEED wonder weapons to be powerful enough to the point where we can possibly escape a tight situation. But even weapons like the Apothicon Servant aren’t powerful enough to allow you to escape from all situations. Say you get cornered by a Margwa, but you can only stun him because the AS isn’t powerful enough to kill him.
I do agree that Five is fun, but the reason that it was good wasn’t because of the Winter’s Howl’s existence. It was good because of its identity and replayability. However you fail to understand that there are maps like Shangri-La that are WAY harder than Five! You have little to no space to train, and yet the baby gun – the wonder weapon on the map – is made for training, which makes the map worse. However it is still fun to use and it’s not necessarily a bad wonder weapon. You can instantly kill several zombies at once by shooting at them and stepping on them. Yet, even though the baby gun isn’t as bad as a wonder weapon as the WH, Shangri-La is still difficult because, once again, no crawl space. Since it’s so hard it just makes it feel unplayable to me, I typically die on round 10 (despite the fact that I have been to round 100 before.)
No wonder weapon deserves to be as bad as the winters howl. It’s not even a wonder weapon really.
I agree, five has always been one of my favorites because it was challenging. Super tight spaces, always have to check your back, trying to save up enough points to get your perks rolling, and having to constantly come up with a plan on how to make it past your last record.
I agree wonder weapons shouldn’t always be OP, but they shouldn’t be bad. The winters howl is just plain bad.
