I feel like Zombies is at its best when it’s going for eerie, not scary. Scary can be tedious. The jumpscare zombies in WW2 start of scary, and then get annoying and tedious. Eerie, where it’s the atmosphere, doesn’t get in the way of the game playing well. A lot of maps are to some extent or another eerie, and it works.

It should be like analog horror where like youll see something for a minute, turn away, turn back and then its gone. Jumpscares for zombies can be kinda cheap after awhile.

Kino scariest map in treyarch line. When the nova crawlers come out with the power coming on. Just a pure sese of dread comes. Atleast that’s how I felt playing it in the og days

Atmosphere is king esp in zombies, zetsu and mob are my two favorites and them both having incredibly creepy atmospheres is like 90% of why

I’d be willing to say that full scary zombies would drive people away from the game. I know zombie players usually say that they loved BO1 menu and verruckt, and how scary they were, but I’m sure the average player would not like an entire game like that.
I know friends that avoided WW2 just because of it being the way it is, of course thats just one of the many reasons people didn’t like that game, but still. Plus, treyarch has much more room for good art style and desing if they stick with colorful maps and overall game.
I dont see activision going for a “scary” game like WW2 anymore, maybe a more dark one like vanguard or WAW but nothing more than that. Even more when they are trying to appeal to a broad amount of people and specially kids.
