So Sony got finessed and played into wasting 4b on them, what a bunch of dumb dumbs.

This is officially the worst acquisition that’s happened in gaming.

And of course the greedy billionaires fucks in C-Suite play fiddle with their fancy cars while the people in the trenches don’t know if they can afford diapers next month.

That explains why their independence depended on them performing well.

Now, according to reports, they’re a full on PlayStation Studio, not just a studio owned by Sony.

Over promising has always been their problem. Remember the E3 Halo 2 demo? The level that never made into the game? At least Microsoft knew how to manage them. Give them deadline and say “The game MUST be out by this date. Make it happen.’

  5. Which is crazy to think about. How did they get to that place? Either its an over management of people or the process they have is poor and doesn’t work so nothing got done. Destiny could have been so much more if treated well.

  6. So basically Jim Ryan vastly overpaid – no wonder he “retired”

This is often why studios get acquired.

This seems absolutely on brand for Bungie. Granted they have had lots of turn over during the years but this pattern goes all the way back to their founding. They didn’t have the money to finish halo, so they went looking for funding and Microsoft funded them. They turned around and played the rebels claiming how much Microsoft ruined their vibe. They bought themselves back but then needed money for destiny, they sold out to Activision. They turn around and claim that they can’t get along with their publisher and blows out of that relationship. I predict the deal with Sony will go exactly the same way.

Have to give them credit that they at least go “all in” for each of their projects but they never manage to make the finances work out without needing more funding which isn’t terribly unusual. They do seem to sour the relationship with their sponsors each time. I worry one day they won’t find someone willing to fund their latest project.

Bet if their CEO didn’t have a $600k annual salary, they wouldn’t have so many financial issues.

If 17% of their workforce is 180 people, they definitely have problems.

They don’t make *near* enough content to have a team that size. You need GTA levels of success; and they put out a DLC every year.

If I remember right there were issues with how Bungie spent money when they were at Activision. I don’t think it matters who owns them they can’t spend properly.

Destiny was great for about 1 year then went to utter shit. Destiny 2 has been shit the entire time. I don’t have the numbers, but I presume Destiny 1 blew Destiny 2 out of the water in both players and retention.

And Bungie spent, what, $500 million to make a game that would be relevant for “10 years?”. In my opinion, they succeeded for 1 year, struggled for 2 and then utterly failed for the next 3,

    Let them sink.

Its like watching Blizzard die all over again.

  15. DinosBiggestFan

That would mean Sony made an even worse deal than it seemed, and it already seemed awful.

You’d think they woulda got a better deal than 3.4 Billion
