Mom said it was my turn to post the rockstar timeline.

Lol, this should include Console releases and PC releases separately, it would feel more filled.

Quality over quantity.
Their games always raise the bar. Ubisoft just grind out the same repetitive shit.
Logseman
Rockstar made more games when it was its own thing, and stopped making games when it became the prestige brand of the Take Two conglomerate.
blacklotusY
But when Rockstar delivers, it’s the game of the year.
Blacksad9999
They average two games per decade at this point, which is bizarre considering how much money they have.
PhthaloDrift
I mean… That streak since Max Payne 3 is legendary.

I’m a big fan of companies that space out their games/sequel releases…
Can’t believe there are people out there paying a 70 dollars every year for garbage slop every year is just stupid.
Companies like Rockstar that value quality over quantity will always be superior.
Abriel_Lafiel
Rockstar went from milking Gta V to death to drilling out its bone marrow.
PitiViers
That also represents how hard it is to dev high quality games nowadays
smegmacow
False information and timeline. Max Payne 1,2 and Smugglers run are not made by Rockstar. Not sure about other games, but probably other duds here as well.
schmockk
Can we please get a remake of Bully?
viciousraccoon
Vice city was a year after 3? I could have sworn it was at least 3 years.
MrDeeJayy
You can actually pinpoint the precise moment they realised they could make more money by investing resources into live service microtransactions instead of full scale game releases.
ColtC7
where lemmings?
night5life
There is nothing but quality games on this timeline. People forget how much the industries standard for quality has shifted over the years and Rockstar is the only developer to not drop the ball over the years.
itsapotatosalad
Oh wow smugglers run, I forgot all about that I used to love it.
Sinniee
Good for them gta and rdr are great games and print infinite money, with those development times they‘d prolly go bankrupt otherwise
AVA_AW
Forgot GTA Definitive edition.

Makes me think they are placing all their eggs in one basket. Either way, they are one bad game away from bankruptcy or shutdown.
JungleJungler
I’d love to see Oni remake or something.
My first disk that i’ve bought. Love it!
Spare_Grylls
I don’t care so long as it’s good
BionicBruv
We will never see a game like Manhunt ever again.
Not sure why stories that explore the darkest narratives possible stir the pot so much. The 2 games we were lucky to get were outrageously unique.

Rockstar is on the Fortnite timeline
NightFuryToni
At least they are letting Remedy remake Max Payne. Still better than Netflix.
ArmeniusLOD
The first Grand Theft Auto was not made by Rockstar, it was made by DMA Design. DMA Design later was acquired by Rockstar and became Rockstar North, but they were still an independent developer under Take Two’s umbrella until after they made Grand Theft Auto III, when Take Two folded DMA into Rockstar. Similarly, Angel Studios was independent until becoming Rockstar San Diego in 2002.
There are other games in this timeline that were not made by Rockstar, but published by them:
* Grand Theft Auto 2 (DMA Design)
* Grand Theft Auto III (DMA Design)
* The Italian Job (2001) (Pixelogic)
* L.A. Noire (Team Bondi)
* Max Payne (Remedy Entertainment)
* Midnight Club: Street Racing (Angel Studios)
* Oni (Bungie)
* Smuggler’s Run (Angel Studios)
* Smuggler’s Run: Warzones (Angel Studios)
* Smuggler’s Run 2: Hostile Territory (Angel Studios)
* State of Emergency (VIS Entertainment)
* Wild Metal Country (DMA Design)

So many classics!
Bully, midnight club, la noire were great games!
Neutrospec
As far as I remember, L.A. Noire didn’t sell much as other Rockstar games, then came Max Payne 3, which barely broke even afterward Rockstar started to focus more on GTA than any other franchise.
TheFrenchReddit
Take Two owns RockStar and created 2K to allow Rockstar to take the time they need to make GTA / Red Dead.
The yearly release cash need was transfered to 2K, with games like NBA 2K, BioShock, XCOM, Borderlands, WWE, Civ etc…

Why bother making new games when you can resell your games for new console generations repeatedly and milk online
