Heard someone throw something large into the dumpster out behind my house. Went to go throw away my own trash an hour or so later and found a sad looking gaming pc. I grabbed the case out and walked it back home. I left the two other side panels because they were trashed. Started tearing into it after trying to power it on. No display. Probably because there’s no video card cables. Tore it down and cleaned up the parts to see what I had on my hands. GTX 1080 Ti, i7 7700K, 16Gb of gskill trident z rgb, and a corsair liquid cooler? Plus two Samsung ssd! And a 750w corsair power supply. My lucky day. I would’ve been set with this pc even back in 2020. Now I have my RTX 4070ti super pc so I’m gonna clean this one up and probably donate it to some local kid or something.

I am not sure what bothers me more, that someone did not try and fix it up, or that it is very likely there is personal data on those drives they just threw in a dumpster.

Looks like its the OG model of Corsair’s AIOs (old pump look), 7700k, 1080Ti, 2 Samsung SSDs (looks like 800 series) and a Corsair HX750 PLATINUM PSU. WOW.
This is all top of the line specs for 2017. That PSU is technically still under warranty lmao

Its the equivalent of a 14900k/4090/990 Pro build, just with 2017 hardware.
Would make a killer budget build that’s also capable of 2k.

It is insane what people will throw away these days. I haven’t gotten lucky enough to find such a thing trashed yet, but you’re a hero for rescuing it and making better things of it.
This is a great find and a 1080ti mind you, is still a decently capable GPU today. There’s so much capability this machine can do. I would totally salvage this and try and clean it up, reformat the drives, clean up some of the cable management and boom, you’ve got a secondary desktop! Very cool. I’m interested to find out why the previous owner tossed it.

Honestly pretty solid. Even now I would still use those SSDs for photo/file dumping. I mean, provided everything works, it would make a FANTASTIC “budget” workstation. The 7700k and 1080ti aren’t slow by any means. Would be great to run renders or be a family computer. What nerve to toss it.

Bruh, I remember watching YouTube videos as a kid with people building PCs exactly like this one and wanting one so bad because the only computer in our house was my dad’s laptop from 2011, which he still uses, that has a i5 2500U.
I know the hardware is a bit dated but, that still kind of screams jaded ex to me. Someone just caught their bf with their best friend or something

God this post makes me feel old. My “childhood dream gaming pc” wouldnt even be able to imagine this. I want to say I had an ATI 9800 pro when I was in high school (only because it was several years old when I was in high school, I think it came out early 2000s and I graduated 2007). I remember back then thinking 512mb of ram and a 1tb hard drive was insane.
It will run anything 1080p @ 60fps, so it’s a great find.
