Asus was suppose to send me a free cable because it wasn’t included with the Thor 1000w PSU.
“If you purchased a ROG Thor 1000W Platinum
PSU that did not come with a 16-pin PCle cable, please contact your local ASUS customer service representative”
I contacted them and they said they would get me a cable and gave me a ticket number.
The cable never came, they never got back to me.
Fast forward after Steve at Gamers Nexus created enough noise, ASUS created a special email for customers who had issues.
I emailed them and they said they would help get me the cable.
Today I received an email indicating I need to pay $402 for a 16-pin PCIe cable???
This is just wild. Sounds like I’m not getting that cable.

Did you buy it direct from Asus or another vendor? If I bought a new power supply and something was missing out of the box I would have returned it for immediate replacement or refund.
Lol what the fuck?
Who is this “local ASUS customer service rep”
asus, asus never change
Further proof that no one should be buying ASUS products in 2024.
I might never buy Intel and Asus again with the way things are going!
God damn it, Asus. Why does your customer service suck so hard.
The charge is if you use advance RMA replacement, a service by which they cross ship you a unit first and place a hold on a credit card until they receive the original unit back, test it, confirm and then cancel the hold.
It’s poorly worded, but it appears that they are changing for an entire new PSU kit.
Why would you need to send back a whole PSU for them to send you one cable? That’s an Asus problem for sure.
Is there more in the email outside the advanced RMA section perhaps?

Info page for reference.
Please note that this ‘promotion’ ended on December 31, 2023.
For comparison, I believe a CableMod 12VHPWR replacement cable (should be the RT-series, but you need to confirm compatibility, of course), like what Asus was offering, is like $30.
STEVE!!!! get ‘m😤

FUCK ASUS
Send that over to Steve, too. He’s been asking for samples like these *after* their talk with Asus.
Ever since Among Us and the pandemic, ASUS just turned into A SUS.
Let me hook you up with a free 12VHPWR cable from us. Sending you a chat message right now! 🙂
Sounds like a forward to Steve.
Once i bought a used lepa psu used without any cables. Wrote to the company and they mailed me a full cable pack and the original box. Fuck asus…
Another day, another Asus support horror story

What a bunch of glue bags
At this point I would return the PSU and get a different one.
ASUS is apparently such a mess (or so unscrupulous that this is intentional) that the whirlwind of suck they are as a customer experience can’t (or won’t) be changed. I do not give a single fuck what the marketing or corporate statements are.
You mention Steve’s ASUS videos; I’d say (as Steve says) to collect as much information as possible and send it to Gamers Nexus–Steve even said they’d properly redact sensitive info.
Amazes me folks are still buying ASUS products after all the hot water they’ve been in recently.
Asus prices are so high and service is borderline illegal, republic of scammers.
Now we know why everyone has ran from asus. I will never deal them ever ever ever ever ever ever ever again. Ever.
Just another lesson for everyone else here that no one should be buying anything from Asus
Similar experience..
Many years ago I had an asus monitor, the panel just stopped working one day and it was too expensive to give up on so I spent like 200 bucks shipping it for repair.
They indeed did repair it and ship it back, however they didn’t include the power cord when sending it back. I emailed to let them know know (and get a cord). They stated I had to send the entire monitor back to them to assess (on my dime). Just said nah and bought one for like 20 bucks. Funny enough they emailed me a couple of times after to see if I was still planning on sending it to them…
LMAO never buying from this piece of shit company again
Nobody here is bothering to read, that this was not a cable that was supposed to be in your box, but was accidentally left out. That’s not the case
Your posts makes it sound like they left a cable out of the box and are now trying to charge you for something you already paid for and should have been included. That’s not true here AT ALL. I’m really surprised you didn’t clarify that in your post, surely you HAD to have known that’s what your post made it sound like.
While the infographic does say if you purchased a unit that didn’t come with it, just reach out. Does it say we will give you one for free? The part you posted doesnt say that, but I don’t think you posted the whole thing, so it def could further down…
You reached out and they gave you the option of them sending you a brand new device and you sending your old one back, while they wait for yours back they put an AUTHORIZATION HOLD on your card for $400. That means they’re not charging you, they’re letting your bank know ” make sure this money is available, because they ARE GOING to charge you if you don’t do something you agreed to. ”
OR
You send yours back, they receive it and send you a new one. Free.
I’m not sure where the issue is? They’re willing to give you a brand new unit, while making sure you give them back the old one..they’re not going to have the money from your bank, unless you screw them. So they’re not holding the money themselves. Your bank is. Most companies operate under this same principle. If you don’t send back the old unit, you will be charged full retail for the device. This goes for wireless carriers, asurion, Amazon, etc etc…
Where is the issue???? That they don’t just send you a cable? Respond to the email and tell them you don’t want the unit, you just want the cable and maybe they’ll give you an option to buy it. If it says somewhere they’ll give it for free, just tell them that. But this is all above board normal procedure. Let them put the hold and get a new unit. Send back your old one, you get a new unit with cable for free? What’s the issue?
Fuck Asus. They are on my blacklist since I saw Steve’s video and did a bit of research myself too.
DM me and we will send you a free cable.
$400??!?!?! For a CABLE? WTF
ASUS has really gone down hill over the last decade, I haven’t been buying any of their crap anymore, have had issues with almost everything I’ve bought from ASUS in a while.
Most other mobo vendors have caused me issues too so I’m pretty much to the point where the only motherboards I buy now are MSI….
Yeah alot off this is going around with asus scamming people, you can look up gamer nexus and he will tell everything you need to know about it
ASUS favorite line is customer induced damage.
The cable has its own serial number, lmao.
I won’t be sending back 5 replacement WRX90E motherboards in your Honor.
I didn’t plan on it before this post but they keep sending me different boards with different problems. 2 don’t even get a reaction when you push the power button, 1 has no working RAM slots, 1 doesn’t recognize any threadripper CPU I install, and the latest one has broken power connector and I stole one off one of the broken ones and fixed that myself. I feel like I’m just getting previously RMAd boards at this point. The original one I purchased had no PCI Express
