So far it is expected that Blackwell will use the same node size as Lovelace, if they wouldn’t dial back the output of 40-series chips than how would they have capacity for 50-series chips?
TSMC can’t just magically increase their output and will probably have to reserve some quantities for AMD and Intel too.
Even with an improved yield, you will have 3 companies fight over TSMC’s 4N manufacturing capacity. Last time Nvidia paid a premium up front to get first access, no clues on how the situation is now.
Also, why would vendors buy large amounts of premium current gen cards when the next generation is available?
Reducing current gen output is just logical.

This is newsworthy because normally goods get produced in the same volume for eternity?
This will be a fun launch. I’m betting every card but the 5090 will only be marginally better.

Very likely won’t be the RTX 4060. They will just sell it at $250 like it was meant to and introduce a newer underwhelming RTX 5060.
How was stock when the 4090 launched?
I bought my 4090 when I built my PC last year, March 2023 which was like 5-6 months after it had already launched and had no issues picking up a 4090 from microcenter. I know something happened sometime last year that made the 4090 scarce but I’m curious what the demand/stock will be when the 5090 drops.
