Whoever thought this cable design was a good idea needs to be hospitalized

  1. There is an F_PANEL connector that bundles all those together, but some case manufacturers still split them up for some reason. One guy on here wanted his HDD light to stop blinking, maybe they do it for him.

This is why standardization is so important.

  3. Agree, and all that’s really needed would be the Power Led and Power Switch imo.

That’s all my case had luckily

It’s been literal decades, and this has never been standardized. So weird.

It used to be so much harder … that what you are holding is sooo simple compared to what it was back in the day.

Put on your glasses and get on your knees..

wait till you get single pins instead of 2 pins together

I plug in the power switch one and call it a day, don’t need any of the others.

Thats better than it used to be, where they were ALL individual pins, even the power and reset buttons.

To make this easier on yourself, you can spend a few bucks on a breakout connector – on one end it is the entire F_Panel block and the other end is the individual cables, so you arent trying to slide them onto pins on the motherboard. Then you can just electrical tape them together at the connection (so they dont come apart) and plug the block in.

Some ASUS boards ship with them standard, but you can buy them on the usual sites for 2-4$.

“So how did you end up in the ER?”

    “Im a F panel engineer”

    “So you want a noose”

Wait until you hear about internal USB 3.0

  12. I’m going to share a tip but OP is hoping someone to get hurt for his own stupidity.

  13. Dupont connectors have been a thing technically since 1951? So yea, it was a different time.
I still use them today for all kinds of electronics projects, they’re wonderful.

Agree 100%, i don’t understand how some things havent been changed/standarized after like 20 years

Funny because my case has one connector for this. Except using it will connect the HDD LED activity light which makes my power led blink forever. So I had to buy a splitter and deal with this cable 🤣

There’s a reasonably good chance the person who designed that, many decades ago, has already died.

It’s from the olden days. And it used to be worse. I would love to see a complete redesign of the desktop standard, plus a standard for modular power supplies.

It’s not going to happen, but it would be nice.

Luckily they make little adapters to plug them all in first and make it one whole connector.
