Mostly … Nothing beside what developer allows is lacking in that specific field. The whole set of cyberware you can get is massive in it’s functionality and impact on deadliness but concerning the looks it’s kinda dramatic it haves so few impact. Thanks to the modders we can have some through the community work and we manage to install various legs, feet, arms , some torso altération and even artificial skull and head including maelstroms faceplates.

Part of the original release of the game was the Style stat. The top two would kinda nix that. I mean, it’s basically negative charisma.
The suit in the middle was designed for Smasher, and David basically went instant cyberpsycho when he put it on. I know Johnny is keeping V from a lot of the effects of having too much chrome, but that’s more than overkill.
The last would probably be fine, but that goes under exotic flesh sculpting. Probably just too much of a hassle for the devs to add in all the options there and try to keep clothing from clipping. That’s not even mentioning the small fortune it would cost to do it, if not the time involved that V technically isn’t supposed to have.

I wished we could get more aesthetic cyberware. Change our eyes, chrome out our arms or legs, different and more intrusive occular and facial implants, etc.

Recovery time and survival rates. Around some of the Maelstrom gigs you can find shards that mention that the optic nerve spit surgery(which you need to be considered part of the gang) has a survival rate because sometimes the brain can’t handle it.
Lizzy Wizzy had her whole body replacement done on stage for a show and then continued the show. It’s debated in universe if the actual surgery happened then or if she had done it already and was just transferring from an organic looking body to the chrome looking one because she was able to finish the show flawlessly and that’s sus in universe.
All the chrome you can get is below the knee or elbow to excuse why you would be able to get on a table, swap the part, then get up and go raid Arasaka tower immediately after. V has a timer running and doesn’t have weeks to learn how to walk on a new leg of an unfamiliar weight and length or move the fingers on their new arm. You can mod to look like anything, but for this particular storyline it doesn’t make sense to sign up for a lengthy recovery period when you have very limited time to figure out how to not die.

Most cyberwear in the cyberpunk universe is cosmetic there’s more weaponized cyberwear but don’t think CDPR wants to nor should they add it to the game unless they’re also going to include an update to how cyberpsychosis works which would interesting to have your character go nuts then a loading screen comes up with us in a random location or inside a hospital for treatment with an NPC telling us that we should be careful with the amount of cyberwear we install and to not lose grip on our humanity

Low on humanity, partly because of the chip, partly because everything else that happens in the story. Can’t risk it.

So addressing all the images:
Maelstrom weren’t exactly known for quality cyberware. They thought metal was better, but they also couldn’t afford the nice toys so…that’s what you get. Subpar cyberware that is more style over substance.
The cyber skeleton was made for Smasher. It continually sent David Psycho. And wasn’t it a prototype? That Smasher destroyed? Disregarding all that, it was so powerful, for game purposes, you shouldn’t be able to afford it until the very end game.
Lastly, a lot of Wizzy’s chrome was more fashion. Wouldn’t make much sense for V to chrome up to that degree with stiff that isn’t useful. V has a chip in their head trying to kill them, so why take the added strain of chroming all your skin when you can get subdermal armor at probably a lower cyberware costs.
But other practical reasons? CDPR likely couldn’t come up with every minute detail that V might make with cyberware. And couldn’t code it in such a way to fit. And since the game is played in 1st person, why bother coding in crazy Maelstorm implants when the player will rarely see them?

V is more of a professional merc that is occasionally chromed for the job than a chromed up psychopath.
PaxUnDomus
David suit would be a complete new system for the game.
As for the rest, I can’t really say. The models are already in the game, they could have just made another slot for face chrome (I mean they DID in PL but it only takes a special item you cannot use for that purpose) and I am sure a CDPR game designer thought of this if us CP enjoyers did.
My guess is that they wanted to keep V more on the “doesn’t look as chromed” side. Also part od what Makes Maelstrom so skezed out are those face plates. Having V look like one of them feels wrong to me.
We also don’t get blade legs which are SICK. I stand by the idea that it was decided to not allow much V cosmetic chroming. Bro already has identity issues.

Kinda off-topic, but I still can’t get over the fact that by the end of the show, David was just a torso with an exoskeleton. Something about this just unsettles me in a way I can’t exactly explain.

So I kinda see it on the same line as how plastic surgery is today, everyone wants it, not everyone can afford and sometimes it doesn’t always look good.

I personally wouldn’t want to sound like I’m talking through a blown out speaker and become a cyberpsycho.

I think V’s chrome is more hidden in general I mean the only exterior visibe chrome on him is either the mantis blades or the wire thing(forgot the name) I feel like this fits into the story too cause most characters in the story don’t really realise just how powerful the individual they’re dealing with is. You also see this sometimes in the story for example when (I forgot his name) but in the end of the mission he asks your name and you have the option to just not tell him, although he saw that you’re competent he would’ve never realised you could take on the likes of Adam Smaher.
