Imo this is just a pr move. A kick Intel while their down moment. The chips are most likely fine and ready issue free, this is just to show the public that can be preemptive instead of reactionary to issues to increase confidence. Plus they really don’t have competition anymore so why rush.

Could be a 200 IQ move if Intel’s supposed microcode fix for the 13th/14th gen (supposed to come sometime in August) decreases performance of those chips, meaning reviews for the 9000 series might have the new numbers giving them an even larger edge over Intel’s current offerings.

Delayed to august…. delayed one month? And the misleading title of not meeting quality expectations….. I hate misleading news titles. Clearly at 1 minute mark the quote AMD stating that REVIEW samples sent to reviewers were the WRONG chips. More than likely they got pre-production chips by accident and they wanted them to get finalized products instead. Which is an honest mistake in terms of logistics, it can happen. Hell recently I bought some expensive pillows and the sent me their dogshit cheapest pillow…. so im working with amazon now to remedy that. Logistics issues happen. Lets not pretend the chips were actually bad and that they had to “print” new ones. because that isn’t whats happening.

Man, I intentionally skipped this most recent gen of CPU and GPU since it was new architectures and mobos and such. I figured this upcoming gen should be more stable but Intel and AMD are making sure that’s not the case.
Though to be honest I don’t really need to upgrade. Maybe I’ll just save for next-next gen.

It’s not the first time AMD had quality issues with early parts.
There were a lot of probkems with WHEA errors in early Ryzen 5000 series parts. AGESA updates cured *most* but not all of them. By the week 47 2020 date code, I’m not aware of any problems, but I had two dead on arrivals from date codes before week 40. They’d work fine with Core Performance Boost turned off, but that’s running below AMD’s spec. The 5600X would just not work at all with CPB on, while the 5800X would kind of work, but log a lot of WHEA errors.
We saw the same thing again with the 7000 series. LTT got hold of a few CPUs which were affected. It seemed less prevailent than it had been with Vermeer and less severe, but I’m still aware of a number of people who had to RMA. Wasn’t personally affected, but I didn’t do much with the 7000 series other than a few 7950X workstations and a 7800X3D gaming box and I didn’t build with early silicon.
AMD’s launches of MCM desktop silicon seem to be pretty rough and I’m *very* glad they’ve caught this before release. I have pre-orders in for four systems (one new, three upgrades) at the moment on 9000 series and I don’t need the hassle I had with the 5000 series.

While this situation is certainly a better spot to be in than Intel, delaying the launch of your CPUs due to a hardware issue and having OEMs and vendors send back all of the CPUs they’ve received so far, including ones already installed in prebuilts isn’t a *positive* thing, and it’s certainly not a stunt to delay launch until Intel’s microcode update.
1)The cost to AMD is larger than any marketing value they could possible gain – especially in the desktop market.
2) it would be *better* for AMD to launch as soon as possible, *before* the microcode update, as most reviewers will have to add instability disclaimers next to any Intel benchmarks in the reviews
3) the risk associated with headlines proclaiming an AMD delay due to hardware issue.

I would rather see a focus on stability and power efficiency… for almost everyone the performance of current CPU’s is surplus to requirements of the users of said CPU’s so chill and focus on reducing power usage and improving (having?) stability and reliability?
