I just spent 6 hours fixing the pcs at work, probably got 95% fixed. A few will need a new os installed because some how it’s corrupted the hard drive on a few pcs, I think someone else tried to fix it themselves and made it worse

Back in/around 1997 I had to go to my sisters work whilst they were closed over a weekend to reinstall the OS as she’d inadvertently deleted a core part of it. She’d received a viral text message from her BF saying if there was this particular file on the HDD it was a virus and needed to be deleted immediately. So she deleted it and killed the PC.
There’s always going to be people jumping on opportunities to exploit issues like this, I don’t doubt that many businesses have already fallen victim to ‘fake’ fixes that are now vulnerable having unknowingly installed additional unwanted software.
