I need to start playing this game, it seems right up my alley as someone who love open world survival games, but I never found the time.
I’m glad they stuck with the game and turned things around.
Brandunaware
They can only afford to do this because they sold it in very early access under false pretenses with a lot of misleading statements. They did eventually make good on it but most companies never get the funding for this kind of continual development and they got it through shady means.
All the later work is great and deserves praise but does not erase the scammy start
NIDORAX
What amazes me is that most developers would have move on to a sequel after 8 years. The fact that they made every update free is even more astounding.
n94able
They learned the lesson that you can both release a broken game AND get praise for fixing said broken game.
Michaeli_Starky
How are they financing it? Are there mtx?
Luckyxwizard6
The game is so good now that I want a sequel
SirKorgor
“Fellow developers: you too can launch an incomplete game and finish it 8 years later in post development!”
Edit: it’s wild to me that this is an unpopular opinion. The game industry is in such a shit state with people thinking this is normal.
speedfreak48t5p
The best part is that they don’t even charge you to keep the game up to date. It’s a true example of what a game should be.
Cloud_N0ne
Also keep it mind that No Man’s Sky has **no microtransactions** and **all content updates are free**. They’re a small, lean team that can ride on the sales of the game itself. I wish more games and devs were like this
joni79
I hope Helldivers 2 can amount to this level of consistency and quality. *fingers crossed*
ChristopherKlay
Warframe recently dropped update 36 after 11 years as well.
I wish more studios would follow.
shoot8me
This was the game that made me stop preordering and getting hyped for games
Pistallion
Not a bad game but it’s pretty shallow ngl
Ketzeph
Learn from a company that had a screwed up game, and spent a decade fixing it after major controversy?
That’s a bad lesson. It also is not indicative of mastery.
I’m guessing this is just a poorly disguised ad?
ceredwyn
Quick question, do you get these updates on Game Pass too or are they gated behind DLC’s? I’d rather play with DLC’s when I am able to buy them later if that is the case.
finH1
This game is just SO GOOD
DiggingPodcast
As a noob, can I get into this now? Burned out from Fortnite/COD and replaying old games, nothing new is particularly grabbing interest…this ok to hop in blind?
newretrovague
Learn from the masters? Don’t even act like this game wasn’t released as a broken mess under false promises and ambition.
Fellow devs, release your games in a finished state instead.
DeskFluid2550
It’s on sale right now too!
Guess I’ll FINALLY start playing
Ritushido
Hopefully they take all the lessons learned on board for their next game and don’t release a broken mess.
Salemsaberhagon
Does that say water landings?
mramazingcongo
developers should definitely not learn from hello games in any way what so ever. yes the end product is good but damn their past should not be forgotten.
hishoax
Too bad the actual gameplay loop hasn’t changed much, I wish the quests were more interesting and that the game actually had loot to find in the world, exploration in general doesn’t feel rewarding – but I guess it’s not meant to be that kind of game.
SunwindPC
Ok but why post this low res picture?
TheBigCheese7
Ahh! This is a great reminder to myself to redownload NMS
ImpressiveFuel2
Every dlc got me hyped but every time I started playing it’s boring
C-sanova
Been a fan since Day 1. Will be a fan until Day 1,000,000
Tigernos
I should probably reinstall this. I played at launch, got the preorder ship, the whole nine yards. Got bored and annoyed and stopped. Seems like there’s a whole new game there now.
obeekaybee7
Holy shit NMS is eight years old already?!?! *crumbles to dust*
rresende
“learn from the masters”
Yeah no.
I don’t want games release in beta state, and wait months or years to devs fix the problem, because 90% of the time, they won’t.
Devs.
I prefer something like RDR2.
Rockstar showed something for months\years and delivered. No major updates, just the normal ones for bug fixes and optimization. I don’t need new content, new missions, etc. Just deliver what you promised, on release day.
camm44
While I don’t condone releasing unfinished/games lacking what was promised, NMS absolutely made up for it.
inquisitor_pangeas
EA: Andromeda failed? Pull the plug, no DLC funding for that one.
Gotta appreciate these devs for going headstrong for so long. I’ve not played NMS in some time but I hope they will focus on story more since that was something I felt was lacking. It improved a lot since it’s released. It’s also nice to remember that these are all free updates and not mini ‘dlcs’ that a lot of companies push as much as they can
cive666
I love the Internet historian on this game.
So good.
Dawn_of_Enceladus
I think they have already left behind their redemption arc (well, like a few updates ago lol). This is just the going bonkers arc already.
And absolutely love to see it. Can’t wait to come back to NMS (haven’t played it in like 3 years), this time in coop with my partner. Next on the list right after Streets of Rogue 2 and Satisfactory 1.0.
summerofrain
The reason most games don’t have 33 major updates and counting is because the studio actually comes out with a new game after a few years.
Fav0
the masters lol
yeah masters at lying about their product selling a broken piece of trash with barely any features that they promised
no this is literally everything thats wrong with gaming
Cilcor10
You mean they learned from terraria!
RuboPosto
I miss a truly co-op game play.
PerfectSplit
it’s a shame the UX in this game is such a frustrating and tedious nightmare, the game seems otherwise really cool.
mrwafu
This isn’t financially viable for most companies. Developers normally live game-to-game with payments from publishers for the next game. There’s no income from supporting existing games without paid DLC, so no way to keep the business open just to work on patches. Gamers always forget that money needs to be involved at some point, and publishers always want more (because every game they invest in is a gamble), and developers always need more (to keep the business open).
I tried finding who is actually paying for this, allegedly game sales are keeping it going, they must have the worlds lowest overhead costs…
The_Beagle
I’m going to be honest, while they made NMS fun to play they NEVER delivered the game they advertised, and only now, after 8 years, and their ‘33rd major update’ appear to be trying to move closer to building the game you saw in that faked trailer they lied about lol
retrospectur
thats respectable i guess
SuckingGodsFinger
I wish I got into the game after they fixed it.
Fox0r
NMS is okay, but the real masterpieces were Joe Danger and Joe Danger 2. Let’s be real.
lord_nuker
Add Concerned Ape on that list as well. What he have done for his small indie game should almost line him up for an Medal of Honor
SigmaLance
As hard as I try to enjoy this game there is just something missing in it that can hold my attention.
It would be a huge step if I could team up with my friends, but that doesn’t seem like it will ever happen.
I am looking forward to their next game and will support it at launch simply because they didn’t abandon the hot mess this game was at release. As crappy as that was it’s good to see them standing behind their product instead of ghosting everyone.
TheNewKing2022
No man’s lie still at it?
RushRoidGG
I hope they fixed the god awful inventory management, that really turned me off of the game as a whole.
Yellowpickle23
I played it during the NXT phase and really enjoyed it. Had about 200 hours into it.
I might want to get back into it after 3 or more years of not playing it. But how are they making enough money to sustain the team? Is it still on Gamepass?
