You guys won’t believe how capable your specs are till you’ve tried this.

I have a pretty good feel for certain settings that tend to tax my card more than others (and things I just hate like motion blur and bloom) and usually turn those down a bit, but otherwise leave most things on the higher end until shown that will not work well.

  2. Or as some people in here do:

Act as if presets would mean anything

Hardware Unboxed is my savior most of the time

  4. NotJustBibbit

I do that anyway. Start at the very highest for 1080p and turn down until I’m getting 40-60fps and I’m happy

Set rt psycho preset ( includes pathtracing) in cyberpunk at 1440p and ran the benchmark, got crazy good performance but noticed frame gen and auto DLSS was on. After turning off frame gen and setting auto DLSS to balanced, I still got about 60 fps during the benchmark and really good 1% lows, regular gameplay is probably much harder, but I was still pleasantly surprised.

Granted, this was with a ryzen 7 7800x3d and 4070ti, the last gpu I tried rt psycho on was a 3080 12gb from evga and performance was 10-20 fps less, with much lower 1% lows, just in the benchmark. It feels weird to have playable performance with even pathtracing on.

Do this every time and targeting around 72 FPS and it works pretty well

  7. Knowing which settings affect what, and how much, helps a ton. The difference in fidelity between Ultra and High/Medium are often times negligible (or even indistinguishable) whilst simultaneously being a huge tax on FPS.

I have an okay set up that I built on the cheap. I used to play everything on low settings until one day I decided to crank up to Ultra, everything was okay and I have been amazed with my PC every day since then. I don’t even know what graphics card I have, I just know I paid $350 for it during the pandemic and it is an AMD.

  9. smithversman

The most annoying part would be restarting the game to apply those settings lmao.

The unoptimized garbage being rolled out though…is wild!

And on that note, can’t believe people still pre-order games haha

  11. Captcha_Imagination

What the average gamer in online shooters is willing to give up for 10-20 FPS is insane.

  12. DaNoahLP

Just turn everything on Ultra no matter the performance

  13. BidenSucksKock

I have a 4070ti (regular) according to this group and most all AMD fan girls my card can’t play any game at 4k nor will it play anything because of the 12GB memory. People are wrong on all accounts. I play everything on ultra except MSFS2020 but there isn’t a card made that can take all that game has.

Motion blur goes off and everything else gets maxed. Maybe mess around with anti aliasing a little

  15. when I went from a 1660super to a 4080, there was a game I played on medium settings and got around 75fps.

When I installed the game on my new rig, I Immediately cranked everything to max. I was getting like 280fps on 1080p (hadn’t bought my new monitor at the time) and I was wondering “damn, everything looks so much better but I wonder if I *actually* applied all the graphics changes?” and to my shock, I did.

I also later figured out that at max settings in that game, the fans of the gpu *weren’t even spinning* due to how overbuilt the 4080 cooler is.

these high end cards are absolute monsters. I’ve gotten into games which show its limits (cough cough Elden Ring) so the honeymoon phase doesn’t last long lol.

  16. looking_at_memes_

I still am not sure how much I can crank everything up and it’ll run smooth

  17. KKSFS1110

like with games, i let the g force decide wish kind of settings are the best for individual games and i wasnt disapointed.

  18. mittenkrusty

With me it’s like I have a powerful pc but I don’t want to max everything out even if I get solid framerates to hear the computer sounding like a jet engine and running like 90c

  19. PM_ME_CAT_FEET

I usually do that but Forbidden West humbled my PC so badly last week it was easier to turn everything all the way down and work my way up.

  20. Paxton-176

Your hardware might be able to handle it, but you handle your new space heater?

  21. Wittusus

Or customise your settings overall. Do you prefer medium shadows and medium textures or ultra textures and low/minimal shadows? Maybe it’s quite simple, but when I thought of it a few years ago when I had a potato pc it changed my world

  22. CockroachRight4434

Me forcing my 4060TI to play Cyberpunk 2077 at 4K max settings and raytracing and still getting 40fps

  23. And then there’s the category which you just run everything on max regardless of performance.

  24. MonkeyCartridge

I mean these days, lower settings hardly gain you anything.

It used to be you could triple the performance at low settings. Now you end up with a sequence of pictures of wet socks and gain 5% in return for your suffering.

  25. ElrecoaI19

Right now at summer I’m using whatever makes my PC cause the least heat lmao
