I can loop port royal at 2.970* mhz but when I try OCCT's 3D adaptive variable test I have to run at 2880 mhz in order to get 0 errors. Have I lost the silicon lottery that badly?
Anyone else with a 4090 can confirm their max stable core clock with OCCT's 3D adaptive variable test?
Mine is a AD102-301 chip flashed with the GALAX 666W bios using nvflashk to unlock 1.1v.
I have also already tested that the memory can do +2000 without any performance regression.

I’ve found that OCCT is harder to pass than the PR stress test, but only slightly in my case (just one bin, 15mhz). I’m not sure why you’re seeing such a large difference. I know you said the memory was good for +2000, but I guess I would reset that back to zero and try one more time. Only thing I can see to do, otherwise it is what it is.
I will say that I’ve never had a single game crash while running PR stress test stable clocks, so you may not need to run it that low for games anyway.
Not even close. My 4090 has OCCT errors in the mid 2800s. My card is one of the worst, yes, but OCCT is also probably the hardest stress test anyone uses. Not crashing or artifacting in games is nothing compared to OCCT.
It’s probably just because of your temperatures. That’s a lot of wattage for these air cooled cards. Lower your power limit in afterburner and run the test again.
My 4090 in occt maxes around 2980, msi suprim liquid
White ROG Strix maxes around 2925, it doesn’t matter to me since I run an UV of 2600 and never goes above 52C. Those 300mhz only spit out a couple extra frames and it’s not worth it

Sir. I think I’m sensing a potential issue in the mix. And jokes aside, flashing back the stock bios, does any of this error occur? What are the max clocks with the stock bios?
I know it’s not fully related, but generally it’s good to mention in the title/body what exact type of 4090 you have – PCB/cooling/etc are things that have an impact to max OC (tho not as much as the silicon lottery ofc).
