First time we’ve invested money ($15,000) into an external company doing a trailer for our Game – Worth it or no?

The trailer definitely looks professional. Whether it’s worth it, that’s harder to answer. This will look good on the Steam store page, which may lead to sales, so that’s good.

  2. AverageCowboyCentaur

Fantastic trailer, looks extremely interesting and more fun than frustrating.

  3. LaserGadgets

FIFTEENthousand. I mean it looks great but how many hours went into this to justify 15k?

  4. yep, i think you got a steal of a deal. they made it look fun and quirky. i have it on my wish list now.

  5. clydewilliams

Echoing what others have said, the trailer looks professional and legit and I think will make folks see your game as more “legit” than your standard random indie game. Investing that much into a trailer too shows you trust your game and what you’re offering!

  6. It’s good enough for me to wishlist on Steam! Love me some Portal vibes.

  7. Emberdevil

Looks very professional to me, I’d say it was well worth it.

  8. StrokeAndDistance

free advertisement isn’t enough but you also want free consultation?

  9. SjurEido

Nice looking trailer, now let’s see if you make $15k more than previous projections!

  10. GleefullyFuckMyAss

This trailer made my tiny booty turn into a thicc gyatt

Pro editor for ~15 years- I’d be very curious to see the Scope of Work on this for $15k…My gut says you overpaid, especially if you provided all of the assets (gameplay, VO). Its not bad, its just not “$15k good”. my 2 cents.

regardless, your game looks sick!!! congrats!

I don’t know what the industry standard is for such a thing, but I can say it does look very professional. The camera movement is dynamic and smooth, the colors pop (as they should for a color-based game), the scene transitions are seamless, and it does it’s job of looking captivating while informing the viewer what the gameplay-loop is going to be like. They nailed the assignment, but it’s up marketing now to get it in front of eyes to make it worth any return on investment.

Trailer is good but not worth the price tag, overpriced.

  14. Don’t worry bad business decisions are made everywhere.

  15. GhosuAUT

15k sounds a bit too much IF you provided all or most of the content (especially ingame sequences and text). BUT the trailer looks good and I guess this thread/question is just another way to promote so…worth it 😀

  16. zetsupetsu

Not gonna lie, that trailer definitely made it very appealing and interesting to play.
But 15,000 for a trailer seems insane! But if it worked on me I guess it will work for many people too but it’s really hard to put a price on these things if its worth it or not.

  17. Jooshiki

Like others said. Looks a bit much but how much time did it take to make? If it’s 15k over 6months ok, if it’s after a week of work. Well ^^

  18. Tadpole-Jackson

Good enough to get me interested in the game at the very least

  19. marniconuke

Quality wise i think this is worth it, i could definetly see it as a world premier trailer on a big event. wether it’s worth the money, as in, do the trailer actually bring sales? that i can’t answer, the game does look cool tho

  20. filmeswole

If you don’t mind sharing, which agency did you use?

  21. Great trailer. but worth 15 K ? i wouldn’t know. Don’t think so.

  22. mcAlt009

What’s the actual game budget ? If your spending 5 million on development then 15k on a trailer isn’t bad. You got IGN to promote it.

  23. undeadsasquatch

Nice trailer, this looks like it would be a great game for VR. Something to consider.

  24. I don’t know much about gaming commercials but yours really grabbed my attention. It was fun to watch and the narration was awesome. To me it’s worth it

  25. Vast-Breakfast-1201

    First

I love your game design, it is very neat.

    Second

The trailer looks cool because the game looks cool. I would love if you made your own trailer. You obviously have the design sense.

  26. Supr3me187

this trailer made me check out your first game and wishlist chromagun 2

  27. TrippySensei

Interesting way to get people to watch your ad lol. Ngl though, the high quality of this trailer does give a good impression. I would probably consider checking it out if I was in the mood for this kind of game

  28. littleblkcat666

Editing clips together? I’m not sure but that’s chump change with larger makers and the quality looks the same, so there is that. But a small game maker may be overpriced.

  29. Toothless-In-Wapping

It looks professional, but all I get from the trailer is that you made a less dark Portal 2.
I have no idea what I’m doing or what the puzzles entail besides color switching.

  30. I_Am_Astraeus

I suppose you’ll crunch the numbers in the end and find out.

Makes it look like an iconic portal-like experience. If your marketing goes well and a lot of buzz is generated about this game I’d say it makes it look fantastically legit.

But it will come down to the game itself. If the humor is good and the game play is fluid and interesting this could take off for the right crowd.

I think if your release goes well, a trailer like this will accelerate your success and pay dividends.

Are you happy with the results? Whether its potentially priced up or not id say they delivered. I think that trailer is quite the hook.

Thoughts from a dude with 0 marketing knowledge or game sales experience. Just played a lot ( A LOT ) of games. Lol.

  31. Petorian343

Game looks like a new take on Portal. I’m in.

  32. confirmSuspicions

That’s pretty shameless to use the word portal in the trailer. I think it looks good though.

  33. RichieRocket

looks amazing, it will be fun to want to break my brain over this game

  34. Objective-Damage-464

    no….some agressiveness there..

  35. curiouslyunpopular

editor here – we wonder about the assets – if they had to play and record themselves – that could/should be expenaive – if you provided the gameplay recordings yourself – id say that you overpaid. i cant listen to audio right now – but it should be a serious indicator of overall quality of the trailer.
