Rockstar Games had an insane run from 2000-2003

Uh… How many of these did they actually MAKE vs just publishing?
They didn’t make Max Payne at the least. Regardless, this timeline is disheartening, but I think it might be a tad disingenuous.

This list is not representative of the truth at all, a lot of the games here were just published by Rockstar.

They didn’t do Oni for example, Bungie did. A short lived branch of Rockstar called ‘Rockstar Canada’ just ported it to the PS2.

It’s sad not seeing them try to develop a new ip… but from a business perspective it makes sense. Gta V was such a cash cow that if I was an investor I wouldn’t want the company to focus on anything else

Did you mean to say 2000 – 2013?

  5. what a decade between 2000 and 2010… if we compare it to today it is ridiculous

Back then they HAD to produce much games as possible to be profitable. Nowadays they just have to create one good to ok game, add microtransactions and they make the profit of their lifes while gamers waiting up to 10 years for a new game from Rockstar. Thats just so fucking sad

That’s because TTI acquired 2K in 2005 so it moved 3rd party game publishing to them.

Prior to that Rockstar was the main game publishing arm of TTI.

As you can see most of the games on that list were not developed by Rockstar.

I want another table tennis game. That one was so much fun

    They produced great games

If only they had produced more pixels, too

  10. They realized they can make more money off of 1 legendary game that they milk for years vs multiple quality projects that can’t become “games as a service”.

I’ll give them props for GTAV and RDR2; I played the shit out of them, two of the best games ever, but never spent a cent to play online….briefly.

My neighbors growing up owned a local video store. I remember they got GTA London a week or so early and one of my fondest gaming memories was playing it non stop for a couple days before a lot of other people could and feeling so cool lol

Gta5 killed the awesomeness that was Rockstar.

crazy to think we got 3 full blown GTA games in the period 2001-2004, but we got 1 in the period of 2013-2024 (and counting)

  14. forgetful_waterfowl

top down GTA, smugglers run, Oni, gta 3, vice city, max payne, manhunt, red dead and bully were some of my all time favs

  15. It’s a shame they don’t make video games anymore

  16. PeaceLovePositivity

Smugglers Run was such a fuckin sweet game that I forgot about. Thanks OP 🙂

Everything was ruined when GTA Online came out

  18. LeFatalTaco

As good as GTA V was it really kinda ruined everything. Why take a risk on a new game when you can just milk the GTA Online cash cow forever?

  19. nogoodgopher

And then games as a service ruined them.
