Any reason they use different pastes? One is blue and one is pink

  1. The pink stuff are thermal pads, somehow it seems to have melted. The blue stuff is thermal paste.

    In my experience, different flavours.

  3. Pink is a phase change pad. They are high performance materials for when it’s important. The grey/blue is your regular cheap old thermal gunk.

Both are single use, so it’s time to get cleaning.

I guess I’m still learning, I never seen one melt. Those pink stuff are thermal pads. Usually tapped to a VRAM.

Different materials, the processors will have the highest performing compound and then as the thermal management requirements of the components go down the compounds used will become cheaper and less thermally conductive for them.

In a previous job I had the unfortunate job of testing and modelling electronics and thermal management solutions; I also had to source thermal compound. A good year of my life I won’t get back

Light pink thermal pads (average variance), darker pink thermal putty (highest variance) and grey thermal paste (lowest variance and gaps).

Thermal pads are used where the distance doesn’t vary as much and pad thickness and softness can squish to the needed height, putty where the variance can be higher and not guaranteed effectively with pads, thermal paste for high heat components with thinnest gaps for best heat transfer.

The pink one sucks and the blue one blows … combined, they form a powerful explosive known as REDLIGHT/GREENLIGHT

The parts with the blue paste are the boy parts.

The parts with the pink paste are the girl parts.

My guess would be maybe different factory equipment at different points of the assembly process using a different paste due to possibly availability or equipment compatibility. Perhaps different viscosities of paste work better or worse with different sized applicators.

Wow thermal pads that actually melted into a paste?
What was the hottest recorded memory temp on that?

Thermal putty is a thing used on a ton of cards for the vram and power deliver. It looks similar to paste

custom build RGB thermal paste, obviously
