I headcanon that V indulges them when they do the doll chip demo so they’ll feel comfortable moving forward with the plan. They don’t really need to be able to take on legends for the plan to work, so why discourage them by showing your true strength?
That demo is why she has the sheer audacity to say this, but it was never real. It was a lion letting his cubs win so they don’t give up the game disheartened. But she isn’t a cub or even a lion, and playtime is over.
You have to headcanon some things because the ludonarrative dissonance is real. Every time my gorilla arms needed Myers’ help lifting a coffee table in PL, I had to just pretend I didn’t see it at all. Things like this just don’t make sense unless they’re one of the first missions you do in the game. Honestly, even making it through the heist to get blindsided and sucker punched by a two-bit bouncer under employ of a man who was OBVIOUSLY about to turn on you… boggles the mind.
