My 5 year old seems to have done something to my left thumbstick. I’ve tried recalibrating it several times and it still has horrendous stick drift.
The controllers seem to look exactly the same and have all the same buttons, but I just don’t know if something is slightly different internally.
I’d way rather just have to spend $40 for a new controller vs $72 to buy the exact thing I need to replace.
I’ve looked online and found a couple answers saying yes but there was connectivity issues, but they weren’t using the official Xbox branded wireless adapter so I can’t really trust that.

That’s an Xbox Series controller, but its functionality is identical to a One controller past the extra button in the middle and various small improvements (a bit more compact, textured grip, better build quality, somewhat better rumble motors) and it will work perfectly with any official adapter.
I myself still use a V1 adapter ever since it was released (I think it’s something like close to a decade old?) and I have a V2 (the one pictured here) on stand by if the original one ever breaks, so you should be good to go with any official Xbox One of any revision or Series controllers.
The adapter is meant to be used for the PC but my Xbox controller works perfectly fine on my PC without it so idk what it does
I have that adapter and my PC have bluetooth and trust i prefer the adapter 100%, the xbox controller works as on a xbox console, let you use all the benefits of the controller like the 3.5 jack and use for mic and sound. If the X thing can connect to xbox console with paring it can be pair too with the adapter. I use my controller with IEM with mic and works very very good, but using it over bluetooth it will not work and just be use as a controller without all benefits in the controller like ports. that adapter is not making another bluetooth ports, is making wireless port that even in the sections of adapter say that is wireless adapter no bluetooth. latency is way better and there is review about it that the adapter make it the pretty much same as cable connected controller. I recommend 100% the xbox wireless adapter to you too

The adapter I have is good it’s just the microphone I have plugged in cuts out but the controller has no lag so I just plug it into my PC. Would drain the batteries quicker anyways.
Hey man look into the king kong 3 controller. I just got one and its SICK. It works with Xbox and its the same shape and feel. But has a ton of features like sticks that never drift. And its easy to repair too.

Get the one with the adapter, it sips batteries compared to BT and connects flawlessly almost all the time.
Make sure you down the Xbox Accessories App. Had a big glitch a few weeks back because the controller was extremely out-of-date. Didn’t even know the App existing, took 5 minutes to update the firmware on the controller(wirelessly).
I had so many problems with my xbox controllers on PC before I bought the adapter. For me, it’s essential.
What I find is that the more bluetooth devices you have connected the worse everything gets. I try to keep it to 2 bluetooth devices max.
I much prefer to use the adapter than bluetooth for my xbox controller.
The controller in each box however will be the same.
The adapter itself I am not sure if I would say it is worth $30. I think on its own it used to be sold for $15.

I prefer using a USB C cable to connect my controller to my PC. My bluetooth is just too unreliable and I hate dealing with dead or uncharged batteries.
2.4g wireless (the adapter) is still the best for everything I’ve ever wanted to use wirelessly. The only downside is needing the adapter, otherwise the connection is more reliable and the tech is simple so it generally uses less battery life.
Get the dongle adapter thing. For some reason Xbone controllers behave weird with some games over bluetooth. Back when I was on Titanfall2 Bluetooth Xbone controllers would cap my frames at like 90 something.
The usb adapter never behaves weird.

The usb adapter is vastly superior to using Bluetooth, has been for a while. I still have the one for the Xbox 360 controller.
My controller would always stop inputting for a second every 10-15 minutes on Bluetooth. Never any problems with the adaptor.
No. It just comes with a crappy adapter. Get the 8 bit one and it will work so much better in my experience.

Latency with the wireless adapter is really notable and better than bluetooth, 100% recommended.
OP, reading comprehension among the comments is apparently lacking here.
If I understand you correctly you already have the USB dongle as pictured on the box on the left, but the controller itself needs to be replaced.
Any Xbox controller will pair with that dongle you already have. You don’t need to buy the more expensive one with the dongle on the box. You can buy the cheaper one on the right and it will work just fine. I believe you need to grab the “Xbox accessories” app from the Microsoft store to pair the new controller to your old dongle.
The controllers themselves are exactly the same, the one on the left just has the dongle bundled. Hope that helps.
I guess I’m the only one who has never had a single issue with Bluetooth? I have a Bluetooth 5.0 adapter on my desktop and every single thing works perfectly, no input lag of any kind, and the range is quite good too (I use it to play on my TV).
I really think most people ragging on plain Bluetooth connection haven’t tried it in a while and are holding on to previous bad experiences with shitty Bluetooth

My Xbox controller has insane connectivity issues until I plugged in the connector.
Just a reminder that during covid the official adapter was being scalped everywhere online at around $130 AUD for a $25 item.
Microsoft sold out and scalpers went nuts.
Its the exact same as a normal controller. Just includes an adapter for computers without BT.
Adapter hands down, Bluetooth is unplayable imo. Best accessory you can buy for your controller.

Always look for controllers with hall effect sticks as they do not get stick drift.
I recommend the Gamesir G7 SE. It’s $45 and has magnetic hall effect sticks. The only downside it is a corded controller, not a wireless one but I believe there are wireless controllers with hall effect sticks too.
