Hey so I’ve recently bought a pc (been using a Mac since 2012) so it’s a bit of a change and all of this is pretty new to me – so please forgive if I sound a little stupid.
I bought a second hand pc (wasn’t too expensive) with a 3080 founders and amd ryzen 9 3900x – it’s 2 years old.
I’ve bought it because It’s a lot faster than the Mac with rendering on octane and I wanted to test it out before I fully commit heavily in pcs in future.
Anyway, I’ve been rendering and monitoring the temperature using tech power up and I noticed that the memory temperature is quite high. After a lot of reading on Reddit, googling etc – there’s numerous answers. Some saying it’s ok, that happens with the 3080 and some saying not to let it above 85, which is fair enough – though I bought it for rendering to which a lot of the time it’s going to be at this temperature. Should I look further into it? Get it fixed or is it normal.
Im a little lost with it all tbh 🥴 😅

Just to add, it’s gone back down to 70 when I stepped away from the pc to let it do its job, is that much of a difference normal?
If there’s any videos / articles explaining it all that would be great too
Your looking at gpu memory temp not memory temp. That’s actually normal and within spec for a 4080 fe under gaming or benchmarks. Ask me how I know
It’s still within spec, but barely. It definitely isn’t a huge issue, and you can just leave it if you don’t mind possibly losing a bit of life from the card. Hard to say just how much, but based on the fact that if you don’t do anything about it, most 3000 series cards run at similar temperatures and we’ve yet to see too many of them fail, it should last a few years at the minimum.
However, I would heavily recommend that you swap out the thermal pads. This would drop the temperatures to a more comfortable level, that would ensure the card would “never” fail.
