Chapter I: Introduction

In Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Zombies, everything; including Chaos — is banished into the Dark Aether. Justifying remnants of Chaos' story being canon to Call of Duty: Vanguard.

Chapter II: Theory

In Call of Duty: Vanguard, the Dark Aether Elder Gods (Kortifex, Saraxis, Inviktor, Norticus, Bellekar, excluding Vercanna) canonically deceive humans into believing they're talking to mythological figures.
Such as: Osiris, Kitsunetsuki, Ares, Ymir, etc..
Leading me to question the gods we see in Call of Duty: Black Ops 4's ‘Chaos’ story, and their credibility.
The following isn't crucial to understanding the post..

▪︎ Kortifex the Deathless (Osiris)

Kortifex's Scepter would land in Egypt; where he was mistaken for ‘‘god of resurrection’’ ‘Osiris’ by the Egyptians. He would later bond with a Pharaoh, who he described as cruel, and black-hearted.

▪︎ Saraxis the Shadow (Kitsunetsuki)

Saraxis' Dragon was sent to Japan; where she'd build a cult following.
She was perceived as a ‘Kitsune,’ and had exerted considerable influence over a ‘‘swampy Okinawan island.’’ Until she was taken captive by Kortifex.

▪︎ Norticus the Conqueror (Ymir)

Norticus' Horn was sent to Scandinavia, coming in contact with Norsemen; who recognised him as ‘Ymir,’ forefather of all Jötnar.

▪︎ Inviktor the Destroyer (Ares/Achilles)

Inviktor's Sword landed in Ancient Greece.
Achilles perceived Inviktor as ‘Ares,’ Greek god of war (Achilles would later bond with Inviktor).
Future generations would recognise Inviktor himself as Achilles; erroneously.

▪︎ Bellekar the Warlock (???)

The Mask of Bellekar was sent to Mexico.
Bellekar tried desperately to teach the Mayans ‘Dark Aether rune magic,’ yet to no avail.
It's never confirmed, but I assume she posed as ‘Itzamná,’ Mayan god of wisdom.

Returning from that exposition dump, let's get back on topic..
So.. my theory. I believe Danu, Ra, Zeus, and Odin (from ‘Chaos’) are equally Dark Aether Elder Gods — once again deceiving humanity.
Additionally, we know Dark Aether indigenous folk aren't restricted solely to the Dark Aether (contrasting Apothicons).
So it's definitely possible they could've travelled to Chaos.

Prima Materia could've been an early rendition of Aetherium. Both reanimate the dead, both create crystal clusters, both have creative applications, etc..
Following Kazimir Zykov's rise to power, he created ‘Machines,’ (LT53 Kazimir?) Perk-a-Colas, Power-Ups, etc.. akin to ‘The Order’ effortlessly building pyramids using Prima Materia.

▪︎ Radio: Forsaken

Forsaken: ‘‘I even decided to help you — I gave you a fighting chance. Machines, perks, power-ups — what could you achieve with these tools at your disposal?’’

Chapter III: Extras

Call of Duty: Vanguard's Season 4 DLC, ‘Shi no Numa Reborn’ brought us a considerable amount of references to Chaos, such as..

A radio located near ‘The Flogger.’ It talks about Alistair Rhodes and his relation to the occult.
In said radio, he's retconned to be an ‘amateur demonologist.’ Backing up my claim that the gods we see in Chaos are equally Dark Aether Elder Gods.
In the same radio, Gabriel says Alistair wrote about ‘Sentinel Artifacts’ but that he (Gabriel) never found out exactly what they were.
So it's not out of the ordinary to assume the ‘Relic Mirror’ we reconstruct in Shi no Numa Reborn is a Sentinel Artifact itself, as Gabriel wouldn't know.

▪︎ Radio: Shi no Numa

Krafft: ‘‘Ach. It reminds of when I studied the writings of Alistair Rhodes — an amateur demonologist and personal hero of mine.
Rhodes wrote about different objects of power that he called ‘‘sentinel artifacts,’’ but I was never able to find out exactly what they were.
Nevertheless, if we can find the relic we seek at Shi no Numa, I am quite certain I can use it on Von List, and trap Kortifex in that little scepter of his’’

On another note, I wanna talk about Kortifex's relation to Ra from Chaos — as I genuinely believe they're one in the same.
In Call of Duty: Vanguard, Kortifex was perceived as ‘Osiris’ by the Egyptians. In mythology, Osiris is the great-great-grandchild of Ra.
Possibly a reference to Kortifex imitating Ra in a previous life.
Or Ra's mimic could've been one of Kortifex's ancestors.

Another parallel being, both the ‘Scepter of Ra’ and ‘Scepter of Kortifex’ primarily reanimate the dead, and give its victims a ‘third eye’ motif.
Aldo Kortifex's scepter seems to be an overall improvement, enabling complete control immediately.

Chapter IV: Conclusion

So, in conclusion. When backed up by all the evidence, and sheer amount of coincidences.. I truly think my theory has credibility. Aldo I'd like to hear what you have to say! Is it plausible? Is it not? And why?

I can definitely think this is plausible. I doubt it’s something treyarch would outright confirm, but who knows, maybe in BO6, we’ll see more chaos references.

Its a nice try at a theory but too many contradictions. How can vg be responsible for chaos if chaos came first. How is Rhodes alive if chaos was part of bo4’s ending banishment.

  3. khai115_2

Its a nice theory but the main problem is in your intro. Chaos in BO4 was stated by Blundell that it had zero relation to Aether at the time, so the banishing at the end of Tag has no effect on Chaos. Assuming they don’t retcon what Blundell established.

  4. I’m so lost with this whole storyline post BO4

You know I used to hate the connection they made to chaos during vanguard because it felt so out of place. But your theory does make the connection a lot more interesting. I wonder if we’ll ever see Scarlett again.

The only criticism I have here is that we have to assume Chaos was not canon to the Aether story prior to the multiverses collapse. So all I would say to edit this theory is that you would need to show that Chaos only appears once the Dark Aether starts to leak into the Tag “perfect universe”

I don’t think this is correct, but it makes Vanguard’s story actually mean anything so i’ll take it.

Bro this shits confusing, I thought they all had their own timelines and stories, tf is with all the connected timelines? Such a horrible fucking idea…

  9. Able-Work-4942

Chaos can’t get banished if it was never canon do the dark aether storyline
